Biography

A Tewkesbury, West Midlands based raditional British Rock outfit that, upon their arrival, injected a good deal of class into a flagging British Rock scene, LIONSHEART was formed by the formidable vocal talent of former GRIM REAPER and ONSLAUGHT vocalist Steve Grimmett alongside identical twins Mark and Steve Owers from Southampton bands FURY and TOUCHÉ. The twins were also formerly in AFTER HOURS along with keyboard player Graham Collett. LIONSHEART, also including ex-TOUCHÉ drummer Anthony Christmas, soon impressed the industry with a superb set of demos, very much in the classical Rock mould.

The Owers twins quit the band two shows into the LILLIAN AXE 1992 British and European tour, necessitating the recruitment of ex-IDOL RICH, PASSION and KILLERS guitarist Nick Burr and ex-WITCHFINDER GENERAL and BAJJON bassist Zakk Bajjon. The revised band opened for MAGNUM on their British 'Chapter And Verse' tour of 1993.

Whilst LIONSHEART scored spectacular success in Japan with their first album and tour whilst the follow up album, 'Pride In Tact', achieved another success, selling over 100'000 copies in Japan. Sadly, faced with lukewarm response from the British press the group's reaction from British Rock fans was lukewarm although sales on the continent were very encouraging as the band hit the road with labelmates TYKETTO throughout Europe in 1995 the year in which drummer Andy Christmas was replaced with Michael O'Brien.

The third album took a further three years to emerge as the band involved itself in legal wrangles with its record company. 'Under Fire', finally released in 1998, featured Grimmett joined by TYKETTO guitarist Brooke St. James, Collett and O'Brien. Despite the pedigree of this roster of players, all momentum had gone out of the band with such a lengthy delay and sales were poor. LIONSHEART duly folded with Grimmett founding a fresh act PRIDE. The singer sessioned on MARSHALL LAW's epic 'Warning From History' album in 1999. In late 2000 news of Grimmett's next project was unveiled as the formation of SEVEN DEADLY SINS was announced. Joining Grimmett on this new venture was Collett, INTENSE bassist Eddie Marsh and former KILLERS drummer Peter Newdeck.

An archive live recording, 'Rising Sons - Live In Japan 1993' emerged in 2002 via the Zoom Club label. Grimmett was also found to be fronting FRICTION. Maintaining some renewed momentum the band self financed a new studio album entitled 'Abyss', recorded at the Warehouse Studio in Oxford throughout May and June of 2003, subsequently signing this release to the Italian Frontiers label. The group underwent line-up changes in December, drafting the PASSION, BATTLEZONE and KILLERS credited Gavin Cooper on bass and Pete Bartlett of STRANGLEHOLD on keyboards. UK tour dates in January 2005 found the band partnered with STATETROOPER. Gavin Cooper joined STATETROOPER that May. The bassist subsequently joined the ranks of MAGNUM singer BOB CATLEY's solo band for UK dates in April 2006. Another ex-bass player, Eddie Marsh, joined GRIPSHIFT that same month.

In late 2006 Grimmett unveiled his brand new Tewkesbury based band project, simply titled THE STEVE GRIMMETT BAND, this unit involving guitarist Ian Nash, bassist Ritchie Walker and drummer Pete Newdeck. Album recordings were co-produced by Newdeck and PINK CREAM 69 bassist Dennis Ward.

In July 2008 Grimmett was announced as fronting the Fargo, North Dakota Heavy Metal band GRIMMSTINE, assembled by METHUSELAH and DOZER guitarist Steve Stine in union with the SONS OF POSEIDON rhythm section of bassist Hat and drummer Dave Johnson. The latter also has credits with DENIED BY CHRIST and METHUSELAH
