Biography

One of the lesser known Glam styled Rock bands from the 70s, SILVERHEAD nevertheless released two collectable albums and were an early port of call for a number of musicians who would go on to scale greater heights. The band, viewed by many as a vehicle to back singer Michael des Barres, was seriously image orientated, being heavy on the make up and wide on the flares. SILVERHEAD's first album, 1972's 'Silverhead' produced by DEEP PURPLE engineer Martin Birch, featured guitarist Stevie Forest. He was replaced for second album '16 And Savaged' in 1973 by former BRONCO guitarist Robbie Blunt. After the group broke up bassist Nigel Harrison teamed up with NITE CITY prior to finding Pop fame with BLONDIE.

Frontman MICHAEL DES BARRES would follow a slightly more varied path. First forming DETECTIVE, with whom he issued two albums 1977's 'Detective' and 'It Take's One To Know One' in 1978 on the LED ZEPPELIN owned Swan Song Records, he later went solo and would forge a career in acting.

However, with music always in his veins, Des Barres was to reunite with Harrison on Des Barres 'I'm Only Human' solo album issued in 1980. The duo played together in the 'supergroup' CHEQUERED PAST with ex SEX PISTOLS guitarist STEVE JONES. Des Barres also toured with POWER STATION, replacing Robert Palmer. In 1983 the singer co-composed the song 'Obsession' with Holly Knight, which gave him a top ten Billboard hit when covered by ANIMOTION in 1985.

Of the other SILVERHEAD members, drummer Pete Thompson found himself behind the kit once more for ex URIAH HEEP vocalist DAVID BYRON's 'Take No Prisoners' solo effort in 1975. Thompson would later renew his URIAH HEEP connections forming part of KEN HENSLEY's project band SHOTGUN. By 1985 Thompson was part of ROBIN TROWER's band for the 'Beyond The Mist' album. Des Barres put out a second solo album in 1986 entitled 'Somebody Up There Likes Me', which included notable guests Andy Taylor of DURAN DURAN and Steve Jones of the SEX PISTOLS.

Blunt teamed up with BROKEN GLASS releasing one album. He then joined CHICKENSHACK for their 1978 album 'The Creeper' before forging a liaison with erstwhile LED ZEPPELIN frontman ROBERT PLANT as part of his touring band.

During early 2004 former QUIET RIOT singer KEVIN DUBROW covered 'Rollin' With My Baby' on his 'In For The Kill' album.
