Biography

Band project formed for the Japanese market by ex-THE QUIREBOYS and THE WILDHEARTS man Ginger in alliance with Conny Bloom, leader of respected Funk Rock merchants the ELECTRIC BOYS and Jon Poole of THE CARDIACS. SILVER GINGER 5 scored a major deal with the Mercury label in Japan for the 'Black Leather Mojo' album and would tour there in 2000. However, the band found it tough going getting the record released in the UK despite a flood of import sales. Fans resorted to petitioning labels but it would be a full year later before the UK market received the album.

Initial UK copies of the album came complete with a bonus disc of demo and live material, the latter culled from June 2001 shows at the London Borderline and Camden Underworld shows. Included would be new SILVER GINGER 5 songs alongside THE WILDHEARTS staples and versions of the ELECTRIC BOYS 'Groovus Maximus' with guest vocals from Conny Bloom and even a medley of ADAM & THE ANTS tunes. The touring band would also include keyboard player Bill Drake of THE CARDIACS and drummer Bladder of THE YO YOS.

Ginger would resurrect THE WILDHEARTS for a sprint across the UK later the same year. Despite a renewed flush of commercial success for Ginger with THE WILDHEARTS, SILVER GINGER 5 made a return in 2004, marking their debut Scandinavian gig by acting as support band for THE WILDHEARTS on 17th February show at the Debaser in Stockholm, Sweden. Meantime Conny Bloom's side project GROOVIES INC. would be ensconced in the studio recording their debut album 'Welcome To The High Times'. The Swede joined Finnish stars HANOI ROCKS in 2004.
