Biography

Touted as "the next big thing", ROGUE MALE peddled straight down the line metal allied to a post apocalyptic image. Belfast native Lyttle is ex PRETTY BOY FLOYD, THE GEMS, PICTURES and VISA. During thier short career, in which they performed a memorable set on the 'ECT' ("Extra Celestial Transmission") heavy metal TV programme, the band were the subject of intense media interest but ultimately fell by the wayside.

Lyttle formed ROGUE MALE with former HANDSOME BEASTS guitarist Phil Ashton, ex-DEEP MACHINE drummer Steve Kingsley and ex-SAMSON bassist Chris Aylmer, later to be superceded by Phillipe Clark. Aylmer wound up with Pop act SIMPLE MINDS and subsequently HEAD OVER HEELS.

Prior to recording the debut album, 'First Visit' in 1985, Clark was replaced by former LE GRIFFE bassist Kevin Collier and Ashton by ex-DIRTY TRICKS guitarist John Fraser Binnie. The band undertook an American club tour but found interest lacking. Kingsley was fleetingly replaced by John Hamilton before the band settled on Swiss drummer Danny Fury. However, 'Animal Man' was recorded utilizing the services of session drummer Charlie Morgan. Following the release of 'Animal Man' ROGUE MALE parted company with Music For Nations. The group pulled in new guitarist Julian Nicholas for further live work. Further demos failed to secure another deal and the band split.

Aston later joined Birmingham act TANTRUM in early 1985 comprising Aston, vocalist Neil Yeomans, bassist Gary Thompson, keyboard man Mark Bradock and drummer Paul Cook. Hamilton joined THE TALLYMAN. In the 90s Binnie would re-unite with his erstwhile DIRTY TRICKS colleagues bassist Terry Horbury and vocalist Kenny Stewart to found tribute band STAIRWAY TO ZEPPELIN. Julian Nicholas went on to join GLASSHOUSE, BURN and the XXX BAND.

After 22 years away from the scene, Jim Lyttle, in collaboration the GMT trio of former GILLAN and OZZY OSBOURNE guitar player Bernie Torme, ex-GILLAN and MAMMOTH bassist John McCoy and drummer Robin Guy, resurrected the ROGUE MALE band name for a 2009 album entitled 'Nail It'.This event was heralded with the new track 'Cold Blooded Man' included on a cover mount CD for the March 2009 edition of 'Classic Rock' magazine.
