Biography
The highly provocative Alt-Rock act RACHEL STAMP was initiated by singer David Ryder-Prangley, a native of Dinas Powys in southern Wales. Relocating to London, the frontman allied himself with guitarist William Crewsden, drummer Clifford Harris and keyboard player Thighpaulsandra. With RACHEL STAMP already making considerable waves on image alone, Warner Bros. Records soon snapped up the fledgling band. At this juncture Michael Rowe took over the keyboard position. This seemingly golden opportunity evaporated though as the A&R rep that had signed the band left the company. Nevertheless, a frustrated band still managed to issue three singles through Warner Bros., 'Pop Singer' in February of 1996, 'Hey Hey Michael You're Really Fantastic' and the 'Bring Me The Head Of Rachel Stamp' before being dropped. Both Harris and Rowe opted out at this juncture.
RACHEL STAMP was rebuilt by re-enlisting Thighpaulsandra and drafting Robin Guy, previously a member of Cardiff Glam act RAG DOLLS, on the drums. In a spirit of enterprise the group concocted Bitch Vinyl on which to release their own product in the singles 'My Sweet Rose' and 'I Got The Worm' before enrolling Shaheena Dax on the keyboards. Two more singles surfaced, 'Spank' and 'Didn't I Break My Heart Over You' upfront of the group's debut 2000 album for the Cruisin' label 'Hymns For Strange Children'. Another single, 'Monsters Of The New Wave', scored RACHEL STAMP valuable radio play backed by an extensive round of UK headline dates supported by GRAND THEFT AUTO throughout September and October.
The second album 'Oceans Of Venus', sporting a photograph of the band shoulder height in water, saw release in May of 2002 via Pure Stirling. The band suffered a further casualty though when Robin Guy departed to join the BRUCE DICKINSON band resulting in the US edition of 'Oceans Of Venus' featuring a revised artwork sleeve design depicting the remaining three band members. A subsequent re-issue for internet distribution boasted a third cover variant and four more songs in extra tracks 'Heroine' and 'My Sweet Rose' alongside radio tempered versions of 'Black Cherry' and 'Do Me In Once And I'll Be Sad, Do Me In Twice And I'll Know Better'.
In 2004 ex-RACHEL STAMP man Robin Guy announced the formation of the GUY-McCOY-TORMÉ band for a tour of North America. This trio saw the drummer being joined by the GILLAN, OZZY OSBOURNE, DESPERADO and SILVER credited guitarist BERNIE TORMÉ and former GILLAN, MAMMOTH, McCOY and ZZEBRA bassist John McCoy.
