Biography

A terribly ambitious series of concept albums inspired by Tom Galley and musically crafted by his guitarist brother Mel Galley, a man who cites credits with WHITESNAKE and TRAPEZE. The project was initially based around a long form video involving short stories of a supernatural nature. The brothers eventually sold the idea to Pete Winkleman at Bronze Records and created quite a stir when they announced a long list of seasoned Rock veterans who were to contribute their skills. Included were TRAPEZE and DEEP PURPLE vocalist GLENN HUGHES, former WHITESNAKE and MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP drummer COZY POWELL, WHITESNAKE bassist Neil Murray and former RAINBOW keyboard player DON AIREY. With so many big names involved even 'Kerrang!' magazine were moved to run a full blown cover story on the whole thing at the time.

Generally, the second album, 'Phenomena II - Dream Runner', is ruled to be a better proposition than the first record, although achieved only a fraction of the publicity. Those involved in the 1987 album included BLACK SABBATH vocalist RAY GILLEN, ex-BRONZ and GTR man MAX BACON, THIN LIZZY guitarist Scott Gorham, VOW WOW guitarist Kyoji Yasmamoto and former ASIA man JOHN WETTON.

The PHENOMENA project was picked up by ex-BIG DAISY and WISHBONE ASH man Mervyn Spence's Parachute Music label for the third album. Another collection of high profile musicians were collected including ex-THIN LIZZY guitarist Scott Gorham, QUEEN guitarist BRIAN MAY, Spence and ex-AIRRACE and MAMA'S BOYS vocalist Keith Murrell. Sales would not appear to have been groundbreaking. Still, a 'Best Of...' PHENOMENA album emerged during 1997.

A brand new PHENOMENA album was on the cards for recording in 2003 entitled 'Psychofantasy'. Set to appear would be former BLACK SABBATH frontman TONY MARTIN, MATT MORETON of the WHOLE LOTTA METAL cast, GLENN HUGHES, guitarist JJ Marsh, ex-JUDAS PRIEST drummer Dave Holland and Keith Murrell of MAMA'S BOYS.

In December 2006 Escape Music re-issued the first three PHENOMENA albums as a triple CD digipack.
