A band of heavyweights put together ostensibly on musical grounds, but heavily reliant on the obesity factor gimmick, the Harry Cowell managed MAMMOTH actually had much more to offer, being all accomplished musicians in their own right. Whilst bassist John McCoy was ex-ZZEBRA, GILLAN and McCOY, frontman Nicky Moore, a one time close contendor for BLACK SABBATH, saw previous service with HACKENSACK, TIGER, SAMSON and ULI JON ROTH, with Kenny Cox having been with NWoBHM outfit MORE.

The first gig was to have been the 1987 Reading Festival until the band pulled out to concentrate on recording the album. When the group did start to gig they pushed the 'big man' image even further by using mini Marshall stacks onstage and later added guitarist Colin Pincott in 1989.

When MAMMOTH split Moore, Baker and Cox formed the Pub Blues band MORE N' MORE with bassist Sarah Boyd. McCoy, on the other hand, journeyed to America to work on an ill-fated project with ANTHRAX vocalist Joey Belladonna and guitarist Al Romano. Later sessions in the States included songwriting and performing with SUN RED SUN, the act that included the late BADLANDS and BLACK SABBATH vocalist RAY GILLEN and Al Romano.

MAMMOTH was eventually resurrected in the late 90's to record the 1997 'XXXL' album for Angel Air Records. Kenny Cox reforged MORE during 1999 but suffered a serious setback to his playing career when he suffered a series of strokes.

Nicky Moore surprisingly was back fronting SAMSON for the 2000 Wacken festival in Germany. In late 2004 a previously anonymous Blues Rock project dubbed FROM BEHIND and seeing Nicky Moore as lead singer was revealed to include three LOCOMOTIVE BREATH personnel in Janne Stark, Matthias Osbäck and Ted Wernersson. This new band recorded demos in December of 2004.

In March 2006 McCoy announced the formation of the GUY-McCOY-TORMÉ band for a tour of North America. This trio saw the bassist being joined by the GILLAN, OZZY OSBOURNE, DESPERADO and SILVER credited guitarist BERNIE TORMÉ and ex-RACHEL STAMP and BRUCE DICKINSON man Robin Guy on drums.
