Biography
London based Glam band who enjoyed a reasonable amount of coverage in the major Metal press in their relatively short time together, BELLADONNA was put together by as 1986 a unit comprising former HELLES BELLES vocalist Paul Quigley, guitarists Jeff Fox (a.k.a. Geoff Roberts) and Paul Lewis, bassist John Slight, previously of THUNDERSTICK, and drummer Vince Hoare. The bass position soon changed, Criss Neil taking up the position, and BELLADONNA cut a three song demo entitled 'Fight Fire With Fire'. Quigley then opted out, to be replaced by Gary Roberts. Fox decamped in order to relocate to Sweden, where he featured with SURE and THE TRAIN RATS. Vince Hoare moved back to South Africa after drumming on the EP 'High On Rock n' Roll' in 1987.
The group then introduced ex-WOLF, CONQUEST, MAYFAIR, BATTLEZONE and AUNT MAY drummer Adam Parsons. The group was to suffer a significant number of changes to its roster, which effectively caused a great deal of damage to their progress. Paul Lewis parted company with the band in late 1988, going on to D-TOX. Gary Roberts was replaced after the release of the band's sole EP with ex-SILK N' SIN vocalist Josie St. John for two weeks in 1989. With Roberts joining CRIME INC., St. John was soon ousted and guitarist Carl Appels-Riley took over on lead vocal, with BELLADONNA adding guitarist Al Macin in his stead. A projected second EP, titled 'I've Had Enough' and scheduled for release in 1989, was shelved, with the group calling it quits.
Macin and Appels-Riley opted to stick together and formed WINTER, although the latter would later team up with his ex-BELLADONNA colleague Criss Neil in BUG. Adam Parsons, meantime, joined LO GIRLS and would later work as both a promoter and production manager with a number of bands, including American outfit CROWN OF THORNS. Parsons would marry ex-PHANTOM BLUE bassist Kim Nielsen in September that year. A subsequent management career found Parsons involved in the business dealings of ASIA and LIZZY BORDEN.
