Biography

A British Doom band with pedigree. Formed in April of 1998 as KHANG, they came into being when the remnants of fabled Doom mongers SERENITY, guitarists Lee Baines and Rich Savage together with drummer Gary Riley opted to persevere in a new unit. Before long the band was being fronted by singer Bryan Outlaw and joined by former DOOM bassist Bri Talbot. However, Riley would be forced out due to personal commitments and Rick Miah, previously with premier act MY DYING BRIDE stabilised the line up.

KHANG got into gear at last performing a run of UK support gigs to acts such as UNIDA, HANGNAIL, SALLY, ORANGE GOBLIN and SPIRIT CARAVAN. Baines would also be inducted into the ranks of MY DYING BRIDE.

On Halloween 1999 the band recorded the 'Premeditated' debut album which included an inspired cover version of LEAFHOUND's 'Stagnant Pools'. A follow up, 'Worship The Evil', was projected for 2002. The following year Bri was performing live with side project TORTOISE WALTZ, an "all star" Sludge band comprising ENCHANTED guitarist Tony, VAE SOLIS and GORE man Jay on bass with the BLOODSTREAM, BLACK MARIAH and THE POSSESSIONS Vinny on the drums.

The band parted ways with longtime singer Bryan Outlaw in April of 2004, due to apparent musical differences. Announcing the addition of replacement singer Paul Catten of MURDER ONE and MEDULLA NOCTE in October the group duly evolved into LAZARUS BLACKSTAR. Original drummer Rick Miah would be superseded by Gordon Wilkinson. The band completed recordings for a debut album in late 2004. AZARUS BLACKSTAR supported Canadians BURIED INSIDE on their December 2005 UK dates.
