Biography

An R&B styled Rock outing recorded at De Lane Lea Studios in 1970 and masterminded by DEEP PURPLE producer Derek Lawrence. Guitarist RITCHIE BLACKMORE and drummer Ian Paice were both members of DEEP PURPLE, veteran session man Big Jim Sullivan taught LED ZEPPELIN's JIMMY PAGE guitar and Albert Lee was previously with both CHRIS FARLOWE and THUNDERBIRDS. Keyboards came from PAICE ASHTON LORD man TONY ASHTON and PROCUL HARUM's Matthew Fisher. Included would be a cover of CREATION's 'Makin' Time'.

The GREEN BULLFROG sessions were originally released with many of the artists cloaked behind pseudonyms and consequently it sold 428 copies upon its original March 1971 Decca release. The cast comprised Earl Jordan (a.k.a. 'Jordan'), Ritchie Blackmore ('Boots'), Albert Lee ('Pinta'), Big Jim Sullivan ('Boss'), Rod Alexander ('Vicar'), Chas Hodges ('Sleepy'), Tony Ashton ('Bevy'), Matthew Fisher ('Sorry') and Ian Paice ('Speedy'). Obviously the record is a highly sought after rarity.

A few years later Sullivan turned up in TIGER and co-produced the first two albums from American Pomp Metal group ANGEL with Derek Lawrence. A Connoisseur Collection 1991 re-release of the GREEN BULLFROG tapes, re-titled 'The Green Bullfrog sessions', added a further three previously unreleased tracks.
