Biography
Ex-ISOTOPE, BUGGLES and YES keyboard player. Downes, together with his ex-BUGGLES partner Trevor Horn, was to gain international prominence by forging the controversial 'Drama' period YES. Downes would find himself part of the supergroup ASIA in 1981 reaping international multi-platinum success. Downes a solo album following his split from ASIA in 1986, but was to rejoin ASIA in 1989 and has been an integral part of the band ever since, releasing two further solo records in 1994 and 1996.
December 1992's 'Vox Humana' album was a re-worked set of tracks previously recorded by Downes in YES, ASIA and BUGGLES. Featured singers included Steve Overland of FM, MAX BACON of GTR and ASIA's John Payne. Guesting on guitar would be STEVE HOWE. An October 1994 release, entitled 'The Work Tapes', comprised demo recordings cut with former DEEP PURPLE vocalist GLENN HUGHES. Downes reunited with his former ASIA partner JOHN WETTON in 2004 to record the 'Icon' album under the billing JOHN WETTON / GEOFFREY DOWNES, released in May 2005 through Frontiers Records. That same year Downes partnered with YES drummer Alan White for both touring and recording in a new project simply billed WHITE.
