Biography

Birmingham melodic Rock act that achieved notable reviews and major record company interest. THE ALLIANCE were managed by BLACK SABBATH tour manager Albert Chapman. The band was founded by former FLYING HAT BAND, BULLION and STARFIGHTERS drummer Barry 'Spence' Scrannage initially under the title of SPACE RACE. The drummer had also been involved in the early days of OZZY OSBOURNE's solo act. As SPACE RACE the group also included Ace Kefford of THE MOVE.

Vocalist TONY MARTIN (dubbed 'The Cat'), previously with LEGEND and ORION, later joined, albeit briefly, TOBRUK, working on a pre WHITESNAKE act with Dutch guitarist Adrian Vandenberg, before landing the job as RAY GILLEN's replacement in BLACK SABBATH for the 'Eternal Idol' album. With Martin's departure former JUDAS PRIEST and LION vocalist Al Atkins was approached to plug the gap but turned the offer down. THE ALLIANCE then split. Many songs written by the band would turn up on the debut MISHA CALVIN album, albeit simply credited to Martin / Calvin.

After a subsequent string of high quality albums for BLACK SABBATH, Martin was to issue his own solo effort in Germany. By 1998 the singer was working with Italian musicians from CROSSBONES and ex-RAINBOW keyboard player DON AIREY in an act titled THE CAGE.

George joined the ROBIN GEORGE band in early 1985 and deputized for Mark Stanway in MAGNUM during his stint with GRAND SLAM.
