Biography

Slick melodic Pop Rock act HARD RAIN was the act created by the MAGNUM stalwarts BOB CATLEY and Tony Clarkin and, unsurprisingly, the music is similar to MAGNUM, if a little mellower. During this period, MAGNUM had been put on hiatus, allowing Clarkin to explore new musical ideas with HARD RAIN. The debut self-titled album emerged on the CBH label, a German concern owned by SAXON manager Rainer Hansell. For live work in the summer of 1997 the duo pulled in erstwhile MAGNUM colleague Mick Barker on drums, Al Barrow on bass and keyboard player Paul Hodson as well as augmenting their sound with Sue McCloskey providing female backing vocals. McCloskey had previously fronted ZENDA JACK'S STORMBRINGER, a band that featured JUDAS PRIEST drummer Alan Moore. Under the pseudonym of ZENDA JACKS McCloskey had released three solo singles for the Magnet label in the mid 70's.

Catley also turned out his debut solo album 'The Tower' between HARD RAIN releases and in a spot of down time Clarkin guested on MARSHALL LAW's epic ' Warning From History' album.

The 1999 album, When The Good Times Come' released by Eagle Rock, sees Catley sharing the lead vocals more with McCloskey. After this second release BOB CATLEY would strike out on the solo trail. Oddly, the debut album would see a re-issue through the Receiver label but retitled 'Perpetual Commotion' and featuring different sleeve artwork.

During 2001 Paul Hodson would join Melodic Rockers TEN for their 'Far Beyond The World' album. The keyboard player would also guest on the debut PULSE album, the band featuring his erstwhile HARD RAIN colleague bassist Al Barrow.

In late 2003 Hodson launched his own act, aptly titled HODSON. Taking on the lead vocal role Hodson allied himself with PULSE and BOB CATLEY band guitarist Vince O'Regan, bassist Josie Vespa and PULSE's Lynch Radinsky on the drums for a 2004 debut 'This Strange World', released by the Italian Frontiers label. In 2005 Barrow and O'Regan aligned themselves with KICK vocalist Nick Workman in a new band unit dubbed EDEN.
