Biography

BADGER was founded by YES founder member keyboard player Tony Kaye after his tenure in PETER BANK's FLASH. Vocalist / bassist DAVID FOSTER was ex-THE WARRIORS, the band that included YES vocalist JON ANDERSON, and SKYLARK. Drummer Roy Dyke is ex-ASHTON GARDNER DYKE. Unusually, BADGER debuted with a live album, entitled 'One Live Badger', produced by YES frontman Jon Anderson recorded at London's Rainbow Theatre in 1972 and wrapped in a lavish Roger Dean sleeve. Foster's affiliation with his erstwhile colleague from WARRIORS went further as he co-wrote both 'Sweet Dreams' and the title track on the YES album 'Time And A Word'.

Promotion for the album included a run of February 1973 shows across Europe supporting BLACK SABBATH. BADGER hooked up with BLACK SABBATH once again, plus show openers NECROMANDUS, for a subsequent UK tour.

BADGER adopted a new stance for the next release as Foster and Parrish departed. Foster later wrote the JOHN PARR hit 'St. Elmos Fire' and became a producer of acts such as CHICAGO whilst Parrish created PARRISH & GURVITZ then THREE MAN ARMY. New recruits were vocalist Jackie Lomax, bassist Kim Gardner (of ASHTON GARDNER DYKE) and former STEALER'S WHEEL guitarist Paul Pilnick.

The second album, 1974's 'White Lady', saw the band mellowing out considerably although it does feature Jeff Beck as guest guitarist. In reality BADGER had in fact called it a day before the album's release. Pilnick later played with DEAF SCHOOL. Dyke joined PAT TRAVERS band. Kaye eventually resumed activities with YES. DAVID FOSTER issued a solo album 'Open Road' through the Voiceprint label in 2004.
