Biography

Former YARDBIRDS vocalist Keith Relf formed ARMAGEDDON after leaving RENAISSANCE with ex-DERRINGER, JOHNNY WINTER and CAPTAIN BEYOND drummer Bobby Caldwell and former STEAMHAMMER guitarist Martin Pugh. Bassist Louis Cennamo had been a member of RENAISSANCE along with Relf, Progressive Rockers COLLOSEUM, AXIS, STEAMHAMMER and BOGOMAS.

The band's debut album scored a notable success in America, but the band disbanded with Relf and Cennamo opting to form ILLUSION. However, Relf but was to tragically die suddenly in 1976.

Caldwell and Pugh put together a second version of ARMAGEDDON to record a second album with former BIBLE BLACK vocalist Jeff Fenholt in 1985, but this remains unreleased. During 1985 Fenholt rehearsed with BLACK SABBATH claiming later to have been a full time member, an aspersion hotly denied by TONY IOMMI. Fenholt was later to emerge fronting JOSHUA for the 'Surrender' album and then DRIVER before becoming a highly controversial TV evangelist.

ARMAGEDDON struggled on pulling in another American vocalist David Donato, but folded within months. Coincidently, Donato too was to turn up in the mid 80s briefly fronting Birmingham legends BLACK SABBATH before founding WHITE TIGER with ex-KISS guitarist Mark St. John.

Caldwell rejoined CAPTAIN BEYOND. Cennamo was last spotted in STONEWAY.

Guitarist Martin Pugh took a career hiatus and relocated to central California, where he began a business building guitars. Pugh subsequently hooked up with harmonica player "Steamin Stan Ruffo" and played straight Blues for a few years. In 2000 he would return to Rock music, formulating 7TH ORDER in union with Daniel Jones and erstwhile VICIOUS RUMORS guitarist Geoff Thorpe.
