ANTIMATTER was the vehicle of ANATHEMA and DREAMBREED bassist Duncan Patterson, founded in 1998 in alliance with Michael Moss. Upon his departure from the famed British Gothic Metal act ANTIMATTER got into gear. Recorded in September 2000 the ambient yet sinister 'Saviour' debut would take a full two years to emerge. Danny Cavanagh of ANATHEMA guests on guitar. Also contributing would be Michelle Richfield of DOMINION and SEAR and Hayley Windsor of DRUG FREE AMERICA featuring on vocals as well as Les 'Lectar' Smith of CRADLE OF FILTH and ANATHEMA on keyboards.

'Saviour' would surface in Germany through Prophecy Productions and in Russia on the Irond label during 2002. In North America release was handled by The End Records, this variant adding an extra two acoustic tracks. The band, taking along Danny Cavanagh, would perform acoustic shows in Europe during October. ANTIMATTER made a return in 2003 promoting a new album 'Lights Out' with US dates in May alongside AGALLOCH and VIRGIN BLACK.

The band issued a "virtual" album in early 2004 entitled 'Unreleased 1998 - 2003', featuring 16 rare tracks, including the original demos, live tracks, cover versions, remixes and a piano version of 'Lost Control' recorded especially for this collection. Also included would be live renditions of 'Far Away' , 'Flowers' and PINK FLOYD's 'Nobodys Home'.

Promising a "acoustic orchestral sound canvas" commenced recording of a new studio album, entitled 'Planetary Confinement', in July of 2004. These sessions included a cover version of TROUBLE's 'Mr.White', originally found on the Chicago Doomsters 1992 album 'Manic Frustration'. Rachel Brewster of MARLOWE would session. The band would donate their rendition of 'Black Sun' to the 2004 DEAD CAN DANCE tribute album 'The Lotus Eaters'. Subsequently members focussed their attention on solo ventures, Mick Moss with a solo record 'The Immaculate Misconception' and Duncan Patterson with DEATHCAP.

In June 2005 Duncan Patterson announced he was to leave the ANTIMATTER fold to prioritise his solo concerns billed ÍON. The live sessions 'Live@K13' saw release through Greek label Sleaszy Rider in 2006. ANTIMATTER completed work on fourth album 'Leaving Eden' in February 2007.
