Biography

TRANSPORT LEAGUE, aiming to "create a new format for heavy guitar-driven groovy rock", was forged by B-THONG vocalist Tony Jelencovich as a side project during 1994. However, by the time the 'Stallion Showcase' album found a release two years later the singer had split from his main act. TRANSPORT LEAGUE toured Scandinavia during late 1996 with a new line up of Jelencovich, guitarist Peter Hunyadi, bassist Ken Sandin and drummer Mattias Starander. This line up recorded the 1997 album 'Superevil'. Bassist Johan Reiven became drummer for Rap Metal act LOK.

During November of 2001 both Peter Hunyadi and Patrik J. Sten made their exit. TRANSPORT LEAGUE regrouped around a revised line up of Jelencovich, guitarist Adam M, DIA PSALMA bass player Stitch and MERCILESS drummer Stipen. The band would self finance the 2002 release 'Grand Amputation' through their own Hoffa Communications label. Stipen enrolled into the ranks of BLACKSHINE that October.

In December of 2002 ex-member Patrik J. Sten returned to the fore with PASSENGER, another in the very long line of Swedish side ventures also incorporating IN FLAMES vocalist Anders Friden, his erstwhile IN FLAMES colleague and GARDENIAN guitarist Niclas Engelin with HEADPLATE bassist Håkan Skoger. Sten would also make a name for himself as a producer.

TRANSPORT LEAGUE signed to Holland's Seamiew Records for the 2003 album 'Multiple Organ Harvest'. Guitarist Dan J. bowed out in May of 2004, the band cryptically citing "personal and economical problems". Replacement would be Martin M., the new recruit making his live debut at the Dutch 'Waldrock' festival in June. That year also saw ex-drummer Mattias Starander forming up part of the live SAYIT band.

On 5th January 2005 Tony Jelencovich gathered with Finland's Metal community at Helsinki's Rock 'n' Roll Station to pay homage to the recently murdered PANTERA / DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Darrell 'Dimebag' Abbott by by forming up a one off PANTERA tribute band DIMEN NIMEEN ("In Dime's Name!"). Other musicians featured in this collective included Alexi Laiho and Roope Latvala of CHILDREN OF BODOM, Atte Sarkima from AJATARRA, Petteri Hirvanen and Nicke of MONSTERBALL, Toni, Pete, Kride and Jukkis of NORTHER and Nico, Euge and OJ from GODSPLAGUE amongst many others.

TRANSPORT LEAGUE entered Grand Recordings in Gothenburg during March to record an album with a working title 'Non Aggressive Formula', this set including a cover of DEPECHE MODE's 'Never Let Me Down Again'. Early 2005 brought an announcement that TRANSPORT LEAGUE frontman Tony Jelencovich was in collaboration with former THE CROWN guitarist Marko Tervonen in a new unit billed ANGEL BLAKE. This project soon scored a label deal with Metal Blade Records.

TRANSPORT LEAGUE reportedly a name change to M.A.N. in June 2005. First product under this new billing would be the album 'Obey, Consume, Reject'. However, official word was then forthcoming stating that M.A.N. was in fact a side endeavour of TRANSPORT LEAGUE, and not a replacement. The band obviously had a change of heart because in August they issued word "TRANSPORT LEAGUE is no more!! We have decided to bury this ship for good!" However, in early September Tony Jelencovich joined Danish act MNEMIC as their new frontman. Meantime, ex-TRANSPORT LEAGUE drummer Stipen resurfaced as a member of HARMS WAY.

During 2007 Jelencovich initiated ICON IN ME, a Russian/Swedish/Danish modern neo-Thrash Metal band featuring HOSTILE BREED guitarist D. Frans and Danish drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen, of SUBMISSION, THE ARCANE ORDER, SCARVE, INSTANT CARNAGE, STRANGLER and SOILWORK repute.

TRANSPORT LEAGUE played a reunion show this past Friday 15th May 2009 on the Terass stage at Henriksberg in Gothenburg. Bassist Ken Sandin was unable to participate in the reunion concert and was temporarily replaced by another former TRANSPORT LEAGUE bassist, Johan Reivén.
