Biography

HELVETETS PORT ("The gate of Hell") is a retro-Heavy Metal band with strong NWoBHM influences. Based in Västerås the catalyst for the band lay in antecedent project BRUTE FORCE, a 2000 duo of singer Witchfinder and drummer Erik Sjödin. The band was named after the Brute Force record label, responsible for two classic GOTHAM CITY albums. Naturally GOTHAM CITY cover versions, alongside material from eighties French act NIGHTMARE, were included in their set alongside brand new compositions, which would later make the transition to HELVETETS PORT - 'Heavy Metal Night', a formative version of 'Djävulens Triangel' under the name of 'Death City' and 'Hårdrockens Förkämpe' then titled 'Heavy-Metal-Forces'.

BRUTE FORCE would ultimately fold and Witchfinder set about composing new songs over the next two years to craft more tracks for the HELVETETS PORT demo 'Metal Strike'. He would then be joined by guitarist Christian Lindell ('Axeman') and drummer Oscar Rolfsson ('O. Thunder'). The band has ties to both CROSSBOW and ACHILLES HEEL.

The group played the 'Muskelrock' festival on 13th June 2009 in Tyrolen, outside Växjö, sharing the stage with SPICE AND THE RJ BAND, AXEWITCH, ABRAMIS BRAMA, CAULDRON, SOLID GROUND, BACKDRAFT, BULLET, THOR, THE DEVIL'S BLOOD and WOLF.
