Biography

An early Uppsala based Progressive Rock band featuring mostly Swedish lyrics. KAIPA's founding 1973 roster of musicians comprised keyboard player Hans Lundin, bassist Tomas Eriksson and session drummer Thomas Sjöberg. The following year Roine Stolt was introduced and guitar and drummer Ingemar Bergman. At this stage the group was known as URA-KAIPA, and isdsued a 1974 7" single under this name, 'Four Leaf', for the För Sent label.

Signing to Decca Records the 'Kaipa' album emerged in 1975, with follow up ' Inget Nytt Under Solen' arriving in 1976. KAIPA subsequently underwent line-up changes, bringing in singer Mats Löfgren and bass player Mats Lindberg during 1977. A third album, 'Solo', arrived in 1978. Inducting guitarist Max Åhman, KAIPA's fourth effort, entitled 'Händer', was delivered via Polar Music in 1980. For touring the band augmented itself with the recruitment of singer Anne Chaaban and bassist Torkel Thyrell. However, Bergman decamped and in 1982 was replaced by Per Andersson.

Although having split in 1982, after the Piglet Music record 'Nattdjurstid' that same year. the group was reformed in 1996 by Roine Stolt and Hans Lundin and a new album was expected to be recorded. Guitarist ROINE STOLT has come to the fore with the highly regarded Progressive band THE FLOWER KINGS, the TRANSATLANTIC collective and a 1989 solo album 'The Lonely Heartbeat'.

KAIPA was resurrected by Stolt and keyboard player Hans Lundin for a brand new studio album, 'Notes From The Past' issued in March of 2002 on the German Progressive Rock label Inside Out Music. Patrik Lundström of RITUAL and Tove Thörn Lundin contribute lead vocals, Morgan Agren the drums whilst Stolt's colleague from THE FLOWER KINGS Jonas Rheingold, contributes bass parts.
