Biography

LORD BELIAL vocalist Thomas 'Dark' is ex-SATANISED. Guitarist Niclas 'Pepa Vassago' Andersson and drummer Mikael 'Sin' are both ex-SADIST. Prior to the 1995 debut album, 'Kiss The Goat - Sic Transit Gloria Mundi' on the No Fashion label, Trollhättan's LORD BELIAL had already made their presence felt with the demos 'The Art Of Dying' in 1993 and 'Into The Frozen Shadows' in 1994.

VASSAGO issued solo product in 1997 in the form of a split 12" single shared with ANTICHRIST. A run of German gigs in April 1998 saw the band touring alongside SATANIC SLAUGHTER and HATOR. LORD BELIAL would switch to titles to UNHOLY CRUSADE for a 1999 re-debut. Confusingly, this album would be credited to LORD BELIAL for a North American release by Metal Blade during 2000.

The band, minus Vassago, would return as LORD BELIAL for a new album 'Angel Grinder'. By November of 2001 Vassago was ensconced back in the ranks. Further touring saw European gigs in April 2002 with road partners SATANIC SLAUGHTER and CORPORATION 187. The band parted ways with guitarist Fredrik Wester in November 2002 bringing the LORD BELIAL line-up back down to frontman Thomas, guitarist Niclas Andersson, bassist Anders and drummer Mikael Backelin.

A split EP shared with RUNEMAGICK, 'Doomed By Death', emerged on the Aftermath Music label in December 2002. The band allied themselves with Norwegian act FORLORN and Slovenians MAGUS NOCTUM for the January 2003 'From Dusk Till Damnation' European tour. In June LORD BELIAL inducted the DRACENA, MINDSNARE, RUNEMAGICK, SANDALINAS and RELEVANT FEW credited skinsman Daniel Moilanen as substitute for Backelin. Guitarist Niclas Andersson exited LORD BELIAL just a few weeks later, being replaced by Hjalmar Nielsen of ENTHRALLED repute during September. This new formation then entered Los Angered Recording recording studios in Gothenburg to commence work on the album 'The Seal Of Belial'. However, by October it was learned that Moilanen had exited and were to be rejoined by original drummer Micke Backelin. A further setback to touring plans occurred when bassist Anders Backelin underwent surgery in July, pushing back the prospect of live work for the musician for six months.

Ex-drummer Daniel Moilanen returned to RELEVANT FEW and also performed with Horror Metal act NOTRE DAME for the band's Summer festivals appearances as a stand in for original drummer Mannequin De Sade, who was sidelined due to an apparent "self-inflicted injury." The drummer became an official NOTRE DAME member in September.

A 2005 LORD BELIAL album, 'Nocturnal Beast', would be recorded at Andy La Rocque's Los Angered Recording Studios once again during June. A planned headline appearance at the 'Jalometalli' festival in Oulu, Finland during August was suspended due to drummer Micke Backelin suffering from "severe lumbago".

LORD BELIAL teamed up with DARK FORTRESS, BORN OF SIN and AZAMOTH for the 'Nocturnal Beast' European tour commencing April 2006. The following month guitarist Thomas Dellamorte joined the ranks of SADISTIC GRIMNESS. LORD BELIAL reconvened at Los Angered Recording Studios in July to cut a new album entitled 'Revelation'. LORD BELIAL parted ways with guitarist Hjalmar Nielsen in September, announcing they intended to persevere as a trio. Thomas Backelin guested on IMPIOUS's 'Holy Murder Masquerade' album sessions in October.

LORD BELIAL guitarist Niclas Andersson joined the live line-up of DIMENSION ZERO for an appearance at the Close-Up Båten festival boat cruise leaving Stockholm on February 5th 2007.
