Biography

Stockholm's EXPULSION date back to a 1988 band titled RIVER'S EDGE. The Initial line-up for EXPULSION featured former TIAMAT members guitarist Stefan Lagergren, bassist Anders Holmberg and drummer Calle Fransson. The band released its first demo tape, 'Cerebral Cessation', in 1989 and also contributed the track 'Certain Corpses Never Decay' to the compilation cassette 'Hymns Of The Dead Volume Two'. Later the same year EXPULSION recorded a second demo entitled 'Veiled In The Mist Of Mystery'. This tape landed the band a deal with Putrefaction Records for whom they were to record the single 'Soul Upheaval' / 'Lain Hidden'. However, this remains unreleased. Another blow was struck when various members found themselves with impending terms of compulsory national military service. Holmberg thus decided to put the band on ice and joined TRANQUILLITY.

Lagergren and Fransson reformed EXPULSION in 1991 adding vocalist Fredrik Thornqvist and female bassist Chelsea Krook. The following year EXPULSION augmented their sound with the enlistment of second guitarist Chris Vowden, an erstwhile member of ABSURD and member of Black Metal combo GEBURIUM. The band's first gig, supporting GRAVE, soon followed.

Chelsea Krook departed and the returning Anders Holmberg signed up once more in time to record the debut single, a self financed effort.

EXPULSION promptly featured three tracks - 'The Other Side', 'Soul Upheaval' and 'As The Last One Leaves' - to the Evil Omen Records compilation album 'Vociferous and Machiavellian Hate'. Coincidentally a further EXPULSION track, 'Let The Raven's Fly', was featured on the Growing Deaf label's compilation 'History Of Things To Come'.

EXPULSION's long awaited debut album, 'Overflow', appeared in 1994 and offered a guest appearance from TIAMAT vocalist Johan Edlund on the track 'At The Madness End'. Both Chris Vowden and Calle Fransson teamed up once more as part of Thrash Metal band STRESSFEST.

In 2007 Vic Records announced the commercial release of an EXPULSION album to comprise both the 'Cerebral Cessation' and 'Veiled In The Mists Of Mystery' plus unreleased tracks. This set, dubbed 'Certain Corpses Never Decay', finally emerged in 2010.
