Death Metal band CROWLEY published the February 1991 demo 'The Gate'. The group has a place in the history of high profile act OPETH as this was the band's original title. The band, based in the Stockholm suburb of Täby and taking its title from the Opet moon city described by author Wilbur Smith, was fronted by singer singer David Isberg, who attempted to pull in former ERUPTION guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt. This strategy did not find favour with the OPETH band members, who duly split off to forge CROWLEY. Meantime, Isberg and Åkerfeldt took ownership of the OPETH title for themselves.
