Biography

A Strängnäs Death Metal act named after a MORBID ANGEL song and showing plenty of renaissance Thrash influences. Originally titled TORMENT upon the band's formation in 1994 by former HARMONY members drummer Kjell Enblom and guitarist Peter 'Flesh' Karlsson, the latter also holding EMBRYO and THE MORTICIAN DEAD credentials. The duo was soon joined by VINTERLAND guitarist Pehr Larsson.

The trio, still operating under the name HARMONY, recorded a demo which came to the attention of Deviation Records based in Scotland. Previously, HARMONY debuted with the January 1993 demo tape 'Blood Angels', following this with 'Until I Dream' that October then 'The Radiance From A Star' in 1994. The Arctic Serenades label issued a split album 'The Radiance From A Star', recorded in December 1994 at Studio Skyline, shared with SERENADE during 1995. The band then switched titles to TORMENT for a three track demo.

Upon signing to Corrosion Records the band title became MAZE OF TORMENT for the album 'The Force' produced by EDGE OF SANITY's Dan Swäno. The band line-up at this juncture comprising vocalist / bassist Pehr Larsson, guitarist Peter Karlsson (a.k.a. 'Pete Flesh') and drummer Kjell Enblom. Shortly after the release of 'The Force' in May 1997 a deal was struck with Thomas Nyqvist's Iron Fist Productions for the sophomore June 1998 outing 'Faster Disaster'. Peter Janssen took over bass duties as Larsson concentrated on his lead vocal role.

Larsson would be replaced by Erik Sahlström of SERPENT OBSCENE and THE MARBLE ICON. Jansson too lost his place to Kalle Sjödin. MAZE OF TORMENT's 2000 album 'Death Strikes', released by the American Necropolis label, was produced by Jocke Pettersson.

MAZE OF TORMENT would be back for another round in March 2002 with the Necropolis released 'The Unmarked Graves'. Included would be a cover version of MISFITS 'All Hell Breaks Loose'. However, by the close of the year the band severed ties with Necropolis and signed 'The Unmarked Graves', complete with new cover art, over to Hellspawn Records. Singapore based label Konqueror Records would also weigh in with a compilation of archive HARMONY material. During 2002 Karlsson fired up side project THE MORTICIAN DEAD, this unit evolving into DECEIVER.

The group suffered line-up changes in early 2004 as both Peter Karlsson and Kalle Sjödin took their leave, bowing out with a performance at the 'Inferno' festival in Norway. Karlsson duly prioritised DECEIVER. MAZE OF TORMENT signed to Black Lodge Records in June 2004. Cutting a new album, 'Hammers Of Mayhem', the membership was built back up to strength with the acquisition of guitarist Viktor Hemgren, of LUCIEN, MÅNEGARM and SORG, second guitarist Rickard Dahlin, also ex-SORG, and bassist Cloffe Caspersson, a seasoned campaigner of acts such as VEINS OF SUFFERING, QUILMESS and AFTERBURNERZ plus being a familiar voice as DJ on Stockholm's Rockklassiker. The band introduced new guitarist Magnus Lindvall, of SOILS OF FATE, in June 2005.

Billed as FLESH, ex-MAZE OF TORMENT guitarist Peter Karlsson recorded a solo album, 'Dödsångest', that same year on Gothenburg label Iron Fist Productions. In 2006 he allied with DECEIVER bassist Crille Lundin to formulate THROWN for a debut album, entitled 'The Suicidal Kings Occult'.

MAZE OF TORMENT cut the 'Hidden Cruelty' album tracks in September 2006 with producer Berno Paulsson at Berno Studios in Malmö. Black Lodge issued the album in April 2007.
