ZOIC was forged in Stockholm by former CANDLEMASS guitarist Lasse Johansson with the services of his CANDLEMASS colleagues Mats 'Mappe' Björkmann, also a former member of A.T.C., and drummer Janne Lindh. Also joining in were VENI DOMINE's vocalist Fredric Olsson and bassist Peter Edwards. Former CRIMSON GLORY frontman Midnight was originally slated to perform vocals on the album but financial constraints rendered this idea redundant.

Fredric Olsson later contributed backing vocals for GODGORY. Guitarist Mappe Björkman would be operating CRANK during 2001.
