Biography

ZAVORASH is a Nihilistic Black Metal band formed 1996 in the Stockholm suburb of Sigtuna by vocalist Zablogma, guitarists Zagzakel and Zagrash. Shortly thereafter all members moved to central Stockholm. ZAVORASH stands for "Za Vorbashtar Raz Shapog" which means "The Legion Of Revenge" in Black Speech, J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional language. Singer Zablogma had met guitarist Zagzakel in school, starting ZAVORASH along with second guitarist Zagrash who lived nearby.

In November and December 1997 the band recorded their first demo at the home of Zagrash (Studio Satan). At the point ZAVORASH didn't have a drummer nor a bassist so they utilized a drum machine for these recordings while Zagrash laid down the bass himself. During these sessions another track 'Truth And Sorrow' was also recorded for an upcoming compilation by Voices Of Death Records. Also noteworthy is the fact that Jens Rydén, the singer of NAGLFAR designed ZAVORASH's first logo, used on the first two demos.

1998 proved to be a very busy year for ZAVORASH. In January the band finally issued their debut demo 'Za Vorbashtar Raz Shapog', the same year as Voices Of Death Records released their compilation 'Voices Of Death Part 2'. This year also saw the recruitment of FUNERAL MIST drummer Necromorbus, who previously also had released two demos via his self-named solo project. By the end of the year ZAVORASH were in Necromorbus Studio, owned by the drummer, recording their second demo. Still without a bassist, Necromorbus recorded the bass himself. Once again an extra song entitled 'Thorn' was recorded for another compilation that Near Dark Productions were planning to release, but this failed to transpire and the song was shelved.

Early 1999 Elven Witchcraft released ZAVORASH's second demo 'In Odium Veritas' on cassette. Shortly thereafter both guitarists had a quarrel

resulting in Zagzakel temporarily leaving the band. On March 27th ZAVORASH played their first and only live concert at "Skärseld 1999" (Purgatory in English), an annual metal gig organized by Necromorbus and Heathendoom Records, located in Viksjö just outside Stockholm. Zagzakel's replacement was Henrik Wenngren from MORNALAND while a session bassist was brought in for the gig. As the year progressed the future of ZAVORASH looked uncertain. Zagzakel was already gone when suddenly Zagrash threw in the towel. By the end of the year ZAVORASH was put on ice as Zablogma left Sweden for studies.

In the following years ZAVORASH received good reviews from the underground zines but remained on haitus. Meanwhile, Necromorbus continued work with FUNERAL MIST, other musical projects and his job as a producer at his own Necromorbus Studio. Amongst other facts, while being abroad for studies Zablogma ended locked up in no less than three different mental institutions in three different countries, the final being back in Sweden.

In 2002 Zablogma made his return and hooked up again with guitarist Zagzakel. During this time their good old school friend Christ Painkiller, who also had contributed backup vocals on one of the songs from 'In Odium Veritas', was the manager and webmaster for the Suicidal Black Metal act SHINING and had introduced Kvarforth to ZAVORASH's music.

Kvarforth, the mainman and singer of SHINING, was also the label boss of Selbstmord Services and was interested in possibly signing ZAVORASH, if they would reunite. Christ then set up a meeting between Zablogma, Zagzakel and Kvarforth which resulted in ZAVORASH's ressurection and a record deal being signed for the re-release and remaster of ZAVORASH's second demo 'In Odium Veritas' along with some bonus tracks. The song 'Thorn' from the 1998 sessions along with two new tracks 'The Descipline Of David' and 'Bluescreen / The Enemy' were recorded in Necromorbus Studio in October 2002. Around this time, the members of ZAVORASH, minus departed guitarist Zagrash, all changed their artist names. Guitarist Zagzakel became Nil, vocalist Zablogma became Totalscorn and drummer Necromorbus adopted the title I. Hate.

Bassist Gideon (a.k.a. Joachim Forsberg) of PROMETHEUS joined ZAVORASH early 2003, and on June 1st 'In Odium Veritas' was released by Selbstmord. After rehersing and writing for a few months, the band entered Necromorbus Studio in August to record new material for the follow up album, due to be released early 2004. During 2003 Kvarforth and his label relocated to Halmstad, and shorty afterwards Totalscorn joined him there to help out with Selbstmord.

By 2004 things had once again ground to a halt with ZAVORASH. Totalscorn had a "falling out" with Kvarforth and returned to Stockholm. This resulted in the new ZAVORASH album being shelfed while Totalscorn searched for a new label to co-operate with as Selbstmord Services ceased to exist. The band members then went their separate ways again. Over the years ZAVORASH grew to being an underground cult band, partialy due to the ressurection through Selbstmord which rejuvenated interest in the band.

After a long period of silence, in May 2006 ZAVORASH's second album entitled 'Nihilistic Ascension & Spiritual Death' was finally released through Total Holocaust Records, much due to Totalscorn keeping the band's name alive and pushing on in the Black Metal underground. Two songs were left off the final version of the new album. According to Totalscorn, the track 'Emotional Clarity Defined' was said to be too similar to another song and lacking quality while the track 'The Sea Of Forlorn' was a weird rock song by bassist Gideon that apparently did not fit into the final album.

In the early months of 2006 Totalscorn united with ONDSKAPT guitarists Acerbus and Nattdal, bassist Avsky and drummer Silen (a.k.a. Gaoth) from LIBRICUM to forge a new project under the name of IXXI. A new ZAVORASH album was planned on being recorded for 2007.
