ZAN CLAN was formed in Stockholm by ex-EASY ACTION, DREAM POLICE, SHOTGUN MESSIAH and KINGPIN vocalist ZINNY J. ZAN (real name Bo Stagman). Upon departing from SHOTGUN MESSIAH in 1989, Zan formed an act titled GRAND SLAM with ex-ELECTRIC BOYS guitarist Martin Thomander, bassist Fredrik Vildsvin and former TALISMAN and YALEBATE drummer Jake Samuel. GRAND SLAM fragmented and Zan formed ZAN CLAN. The debut line-up for the 1994 'Citizen Of Wasteland' album comprised Zinny J. Zan, guitarists Sören Swanson and Christian Baraldi, bass player Perra Tedebald and drummer Matthew Baraldi. Zan's next recorded output, also featuring Swanson and the Baraldi brothers, would be the 2000 'City Boy Blues' album credited as a solo artist.

By 2003 the ZAN CLAN line-up had evolved to see Zinny Zan ranked alongside the veteran GREAT KING RAT and JEKYLL N' HYDE guitarist PONTUS NORGREN, second guitarist Chris Laney, of SCRATCH, UNAMEUS, 17, GODSACHE repute, along with the former LION'S SHARE rhythm section of bassist Pontus Egberg and drummer Johan Koleberg. This version of the band debuted with a cover of CHEAP TRICK's almighty 'Surrender', included on the tribute album 'Tricked Out'.

May 2004 witnessed a reunion for Zinny Zan and his erstwhile SHOTGUN MESSIAH colleague Stixx as the drummer joined ZAN CLAN for their Rockklassiker sponsored 'Rockbåten' ferry gig. This guest appearance marked the first time the two ex-SHOTGUN MESSIAH members had played together in over 12 years. Chris Laney joined Randy Piper's ANIMAL in mid 2004. Meantime, ZAN CLAN scored valuable support slots to WHITESNAKE in September, opening up for the veteran British act in Stockholm and Gothenburg.

ZAN CLAN issued new studio album 'We Are Zan Clan, Who the F**k Are You??!' in April 2005 via GMR Music. The record saw US distribution via Perris Records in June with the track 'Go Go Go' featuring on the Perris compilation 'Hollywood Hairspray 4'. Chris Laney would also be found colluding with UK Glam veterans TIGERTAILZ for album recordings.

ZAN CLAN underwent a major line-up shift in March 2006 as both guitarist PONTUS NORGREN and bass player Pontus Egberg bowed out. The exiting duo had found unexpected international exposure with THE POODLES, winning one of the four qualifying rounds in Sweden's competition to find an entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest with their '80s track 'Night Of Passion'. Alongside Norgren and Egberg THE POODLES comprised fellow seasoned veterans vocalist Jakob Samuel, of THE RING, TALISMAN and JEKYLL & HYDE, drummer Christian Lundqvist and the equally esteemed figure of Mats Levén, of KRUX, the YNGWIE MALMSTEEN band, AT VANCE and THERION.

ZAN CLAN reformulated to comprise Zan, Laney, Koleberg, guitarist Rob Love and bassist Grizzly. In December the band utilised Polar and Platform studios in Stockholm to cut new album tracks.

November 2008 saw an announcement that Chris Laney had signed a solo record deal with AOR Heaven.
