Biography

Guitarist TOMMY DENANDER's passion for AOR, allied with his unwavering work ethic, has made him a familiar name on the international Melodic Rock landscape across a multitude of projects. The debut album, November 1995's 'Less Is More' released through Local Dealer Music, included most of American AOR supergroup TOTO as backing musicians including keyboard player David Paich, bassist Mike Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro. Denander cites a wealth of experience on the Scandinavian Rock scene, having featured with A.T.C., SPEEDY GONZALES, EARTHQUAKE, MORPHEUS, UNANIMATED amongst many others.

A June 1997 release 'Limited Access' was aptly titled as only 500 were made available, it being a collection of demos, out takes and advance material for Denander's forthcoming albums. BRUCE GAITSCH contributes on guitar. This collection, oddly enough, also saw release in Rumania as a cassette entitled 'Guitar Czar'.

Denander's output during 1997 was simply vast, ranging from contributions to HOUSE OF SHAKIRA man Bernt Ek's solo album as well as his HOUSE OF SHAKIRA colleague and vocalist Andy Eklund's solo effort. Denander also turns up on the debut LOCOMOTIVE BREATH album the same year, as well as producing the album by blues man David Brook. Another effort, a collaboration with BRUCE GAITSCH, resulted in the November 1998 record 'Counterparts'.

As for his own albums, Denander pulled in some heavyweight guests with the R&B flavoured 'Yeah (III)' now boasting TOTO's BOBBY KIMBALL in addition to a returned favour from Ady Eklund.

Denander founded RAINMAKER issuing an eponymous 2000 album. The man also contributed to the self titled SAYIT album the same year and was also found to be involved with yet another act entitled PRISONER. Both Denander and his PRISONER colleague and guitarist Geir Rönning along with former EUROPE man Kee Marcello would contribute to the JASON BECKER 2001 tribute album on Lion Music.

Denander's much vaunted and long awaited RADIOACTIVE project album finally arrived in 2001. The cast list of AOR luminaries involved with this venture, including former ALIEN frontman Jim Jedhed, being voluminous to say the least.

Denander would guest session on the 2002 album 'Heavy Machinery' from the Janne Stark led Swedish Hard Rockers LOCOMOTIVE BREATH. During the summer Denander revealed plans to assemble a further band endeavour billed as TYKOON. Included alumini would be Lars Chriss of LION'S SHARE, vocalist Leif Sundin of MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, GREAT KING RAT and JOHN NORUM band and GLORY's bass player Andy Loos.

Denander would produce the 2002 'Full Circle' album for ex-ALIEN vocalist JIM JEDHED. The guitarist also found time to contribute backing vocals to the debut record of EDGE OF TIME, a new band collaboration formed by Italian vocalist Chris Heaven and ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN drummer Michael Von Knorring. His keyboard skills would also figure on the SWEET tribute album 'Sweet F.A.' that same year and he would lay down lead guitar for the song 'Feel Again' on the SHORTINO/NORTHRUP album 'Afterlife'. In early 2004 a collection of archive tracks, recorded with the obligitary guest cast, surfaced on the AOR Heaven label under the project title DEACON STREET. Amidst all this activity, Denander found time to guest on Christian Rivel of NARNIA's ambitious epic Rock project AUDIOVISION's 'The Calling' album.

Denander played his biggest gig to date in July of 2004, performing in front of 50,000 people at the Ullevi football stadium in Gothenburg for the opening ceremony for the Gothia Cup youth soccor tournament. He would perform as part of the SAYIT band just shortly before. That October he joined CHRIS CATENA's live band for a performance at the 'Rockfest80' festival in Italy. Both Denander and PRISONER vocalist Pierre Weinsberg subsequently put in studio work with AOR project HEARTBREAK RADIO.

In 2005 Denander acted as producer for ex-UNRULY CHILD singer PHILIP BARDOWELL's 'In The Cut' album. Naturally the guitarist's 2005 RADIOACTIVE opus, entitled 'Taken', sported a multitude of guests. On the roll call this time around would be YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and PHILIP BARDOWELL on 'Shattered', JADED HEART's Johan Fahlberg on 'Sinner', Thomas Vikström on 'Love Is On Your Mind', JAMES CHRISTIAN and ROBIN BECK duetting on 'Easy's Getting Harder', Christian Ingebrigtsen on 'Forgiveness', Mikael Erlandsson on 'This I Promise You', FERGIE FREDERIKSEN and BRUCE KULICK on 'Premonition', NIGHT RANGER's Kelly Keagy and JOURNEY's NEAL SCHON on 'Carry On', STEVE LUKATHER on 'Never Gonna Let Her Go' and the SILVER pairing of Gary Barden and Michael Voss on 'Hit Her Where It Hurts'. Denander guested on GARY JOHN BARDEN's 2006 solo album, 'The Agony And Xtasy' and contributed session guitar on OVERDRIVE and LOCOMOTIVE BREATH guitarist Janne Stark's November 2006 MOUNTAIN OF POWER tribute collection.

Yet another band project involving Denander would be the multi-national melodic combo INDIGO DYING, comprising an illustrious cast of players involving vocalist Gisa Vatcky of BANDAGE, guitarist Mordechai Hauser, bassist Fabrizio Grossi of GLENN HUGHES and STEVE VAI repute, keyboard player Jamie Teramo plus the RIOT, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and ARK veteran John Macaluso on drums.
