Biography

In February 2006 spoof Rock band THE POODLES won one of the four qualifying rounds in Sweden's competition to find an entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest with their '80s track 'Night Of Passion'. THE POODLES in fact comprised a cast of seasoned veterans and involved vocalist Jakob Samuel, of THE RING, TALISMAN and JEKYLL & HYDE, guitarist PONTUS NORGREN, from GREAT KING RAT, DAMAGE DONE, THE RING, ZAN CLAN, DARK ILLUSION and TALISMAN, bassist Pontus Egberg of STEAMROLLER, ZAN CLAN and LION'S SHARE repute and drummer Christian Lundqvist. Supplying backing vocals would be the equally esteemed figure of Mats Levén, of KRUX, the YNGWIE MALMSTEEN band, AT VANCE and THERION.

The song 'Night Of Passion' was co-composed by Matti Alfonzetti, former vocalist in JAGGED EDGE, ALFONZETTI and SKINTRADE. Released as a single, 'Night Of Passion' entered the Swedish national charts at number 2. The album, 'Metal Will Stand Tall', charted at number 5 in May and stayed buoyant, remaining in the top ten before rising back up to number 4. A single, 'Metal Will Stand Tall', also hit number 2 in Sweden. During October the follow up, 'Song For You', entered the charts at number 19 whilst 'Metal Will Stand Tall', after 18 weeks, was still maintaining its grip on the national listings.

In 2007 THE POODLES returned with album 'The Sweet Trade', again produced by Matti Alfonzetti and Johan Lyander. An April single entitled 'Seven Seas' preceded this release.

Pontus Norgren exited in early 2008 to join leading Swedish Heavy Metal band HAMMERFALL. In June THE POODLES recruited guitarist Henrik Bergqvist, of SOUTHFORK and TIAMAT, as replacement. The new member made his live debut on Friday June 6th at the 'Sweden Rock' festival in Sölvesborg.

The single 'One Out Of Ten' was delivered in February 2009, hitting the national Swedish top ten. A further album, entitled 'Clash Of The Elements' produced by Mats Valentin, arrived via the band's custom imprint Rosehip Valley Records in 2009. The set was mixed by Mike Fraser.

THE POODLES made an appearance at the 24th October 2009 'Firefest' event in Nottingham.
