Biography
SHOCK TILT is a Vaasa based Hard Rock outfit formed during 1984. The original formation involved vocalist / guitarist Pär Häggblom, bassist Rolf Häggblom, both former members of CENTRAL HEAT, guitarist Hannu Rajala, joining in April 1985, and drummer Hasse Montin, both previously of TURBULENCE and WHITE HOUZE. Tilt Records issued the EP 'Night-Fight' the following year. Only 250 copies were distributed with the band members credited as 'Nick Tilt' (Pär Häggblom), 'Rallo Nity' (Rolf Häggblom), 'Jess Border' (Rajala) and 'Lee Green' (Montin). Briefly, in June 1986, Putte Jansson of WILDEFORCE manned the drums.
The group relocated to Sweden in August 1986. The new look band featured guitarist Lars Johansson, subsequently to opt out in order to join CANDLEMASS.
Tragedy hit the band when guitarist Hannu Rajala was murdered. SHOCK TILT had answered an advert in the Gula Tidningen newspaper from Swedish band manager Anders Carlsson, who had arranged a trip to Germany on 26th November 1987, apparently to meet with Noise Records in Berlin. Rajala was asked to accompany Carlsson. The guitarist's corpse was found on 27th January 1988. Carlsson claimed he had left Rajala in Copenhagen but police determined he had met his death at Carlsson's apartment in Vällingby on 27th November 1987. Forensic evidence determined the musician had been subdued with ether, sexually molested, killed then dismembered.
Montin exited during 1988. Drums would then be in the hands of Thomas Haukilahti. Swedish musician Stefan Fernqvist took on guitar duties for a 1988 Finnish tour. That same year Rene Lintunen joined the band on guitar, but left shortly afterwards, as did guitar player John Isaksson.
SHOCK TILT released the 7" vinyl single 'Heaven Calls' on the Top label in 1989. On drums would be the YNGWIE MALMSTEEN credited Tomas Hultmark. The group then enrolled the 17 year old guitarist Fredrik Åkesson in 1990. His tenure was brief, Åkesson going on to find a higher profile with ARCH ENEMY and TALISMAN. Hultmark exited the following year, being replaced by the journeyman figure of Hempo Hilden for the 'Shock 'n Roll' tour, but returned in 1991.
SHOCK TILT participated in the compilation album 'Coming Up' in 1993 with the tracks 'Heaven Calls' and 'I Need Love'. These songs had been recorded during 1990 with Conny Lind of GREAT KING RAT on lead vocals. Tomas Hultmark stood down again for a second time in 1994. The band also contributed their version of 'Crazy Train' to a 1998 OZZY OSBOURNE tribute album 'Ozzified '98'.
SHOCK TILT reformed in 2006, citing a membership of vocalist / guitarist Pär Häggblom, guitarist Jonny Mellis Reinholm, bassist Rolf Häggblom plus the KEEGAN, MERCY, HEXENHAUS and HYDROGEN credited Ralph Rydén on drums.
