Stockholm's SERPENT date back to 1993 when the band were formed as a side project by then ENTOMBED bassist Lars Rosenberg and CONCRETE SLEEP / THERION's bassist Andreas Wahl. The band soon enlisted THERION drummer Piotr Wawrzeniuk on vocals and drums before completing the line up with guitarist Johan Lundell.

Wahl departed in 1994 and was replaced by Ulf Samuelsson of SUFFER. Drummer Per Karlsson, another former SUFFER compatriot, joined SERPENT following recording of the debut album.

Unsatisfied with the reception to the debut album, SERPENT split from Radiation Records before undergoing an even more traumatic event when Rosenberg left the fold. Ironically, his swift replacement was none other than Wahl. This line up soon got back into action by donating a fresh recording, a song titled 'The Fog', to a couple of compilation albums prompting a deal with Heathendoom Music.

Karlsson joined T.A.R. in January 1997.
