Biography

Stockholm Death Metal act created in 1989. NECROPHOBIC once included ex-DARK FUNERAL guitarist Dave Parland in the ranks. The band's initial demo, 'Slow Asphyxiation', sold a commendable 700 copies, prompting a 1991 three track tape entitled 'Unholy Prophecies', recorded at the ever popular Sunlight studios.

NECROPHOBIC's first commercial release came with an EP titled 'The Call' on U.S. label Wild Rags Records that featured ex-CREMATORY vocalist Stefan Harrvik. A track also followed on a compilation album on Witchhunt Records. The band would then contract to the Black Mark Production label for a run of albums, commencing with 'The Nocturnal Silence' in 1993.

In late 1995 keyboard player Tobbe Sidegard joined fellow Swedes THERION and Parland quit in 1996 to concentrate on his solo outfit BLACKMOON. Undaunted, NECROPHOBIC issued the 'Darkside' album that same year. 1997's 'Darkside' album witnessed a fresh NECROPHOBIC line-up comprised of Tobbe Sidegard on vocals and bass, drummer Joakim Sterner and new guitarist Martin Halfdahn. A third Black Mark Production album, 'The Third Antichrist', arrived in October 1999.

NECROPHOBIC would tour Poland in November of 2002, headlining a package billing also comprising fellow Swedes DIABOLICAL, British band THUS DEFILED along with Polish outfits CORRUPTION, HELL BORN, MESSAGE and UNNAMED. Further shows, allied with SATARIEL and IMPIOUS, took the band into mainland Europe in January of 2003. To coincide with the dates Hammerheart label reissued NECROPHOBIC's first three albums 'The Nocturnal Silence', 'Darkside' and 'The Third Antichrist'.

Johan Bergebäck joined DISMEMBER in September of 2004. Having severed ties with Karmageddon Media during November of 2005, NECROPHOBIC entered Dark Voodoo Studios, working with engineers Anders Bentell and Fredrik Folkare, UNLEASHED guitarist, on a new album, 'Hrimthursum' ("The Frost Giants') for Regain Records.

In 2008 NECROPHOBIC conducted live dates as a quintet, utilising Erik Danielsson of BLOODSOIL, DISSECTION and WATAIN as session member. That September NECROPHOBIC released a limited edition metal box package entitled 'Satanic Blasphemies' via Regain Records, including a CD, a poster, a patch and a extensive booklet. The CD featured material from the band's first two demos, 1990's 'Slow Asphyxiation' and 1991's 'Unholy Prophecies', plus 'The Call' 7" vinyl EP from 1992.

In October the band enrolled new bassist Alex Friberg.
