INTERNAL DECAY was formed as CRITICAL STATE in 1987. A further name change to SUBLIMINAL FEAR occurred before finalising on INTERNAL DECAY, with a demo cassette release in 1991. Following the debut album release guitarist Willy Maturna lost his place to ex-EXCRUCIATE man Hempa Brynolfsson. Session players included the VÖRGUS pairing of bassist Kenneth Nyholm and keyboard player Harry Virtanen.

With the demise of the band guitarists Micke Jacobsson and Kenny Lundstedt founded DEFORMITY, with Nyholm and Virtanen, then AD INFINITUM. By 1998 Jakobsson was operating a new act, PANDEMONIC.
