Biography

A traditionally motivated old school Death Metal band out of Stockholm, CONSTRUCDEAD arose in May 1999, centred upon the triumvirate of drummer Erik Thyselius and guitarists Rickard Dahlberg and Christian Ericson, all previously involved with ARIZE, this act having put out a brace of 1998 demos. Bass player Joakim 'Harju' Hedestedt would be pulled in from the collapsing FACE DOWN. During these formative months THYRFING vocalist Henrik Svegsjö operated as frontman briefly before ex-EMBODIMENT man Jonas Sandberg secured the lead vocal role. Drummer Erik Thyselius also operates as a member of TERROR 2000.

CONSTRUCDEAD debuted with a self-financed December 1999 demo EP 'The New Constitution' and followed this with another EP 'Turn' in March 2000. This latter release would see SOILWORK's Peter Wichers guesting. The band put in a valuable overseas performance with a showing at the Dutch 'Stonehenge' festival billed alongside a heavyweight billing of ENTHRONED, HOUWITZER, ABSORBED, DEADHEAD, GOSPEL OF THE HORNS and HAMMERHAWK. Erik Thyselius would also find time to session for the notorious GENERAL SURGERY.

Another EP 'As Time Bleeds' was duly issued upfront of another European festival gig at the Czech 'Nuclear Storm' festival in July 2001. CONSTRUCDEAD signed to the Japanese Soundholic label for their first full length album 'Repent'. The album included a guest guitar session from Magnus Soderman. Japanese versions issued on the Teichiku label added a bonus track 'Metamorphosia'.

The band parted ways with singer Jonas Sandberg in September of 2002, shortly after announcing the replacement as Daniel Regefelt. However, within weeks Regefelt was out of the picture and GODSIC frontman Peter Tuthill was duly enrolled. The group would also sever ties with Cold Records.

Second album 'Viladead', recorded and mixed at Helsingborg's Queenstreet Recording with producer Richard Larsson, emerged in January of 2004. The record featured guest appearances by SOILWORK vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid and ex-SOILWORK drummer Henry Ranta on the track 'Bitter End'. Subsequently bass guitarist Joakim Hedestedt and drummer Erik Thyselius formed up part of the resurrected FACE DOWN. That August CONSTRUCDEAD drafted ex-CARNAL FORGE guitarist Johan Magnusson as their new bass man, entering Fear And Loathing Studios in late October to craft the EP 'Wounded'.

Working with director Charlie Granberg, CONSTRUCDEAD filmed their 1st April 2005 appearance at Kolingsborg venue in Stockholm for a live DVD release. However, the band was dealt a blow in May when Peter Tuthill quit in order to resurrect his previous group DOG FACED GODS. In early 2006 Tuthill announced new formation NAILSTATE to the world, being a union of Paul Mäkitalo (a.k.a. 'Themgoroth') of DARK FUNERAL and INFERNAL, Gustaf Jorde, ex-DEFLESHED and Stefan Norgren from ETERNAL OATH.

Jens Broman from THE DEFACED and HATELIGHT filled the spot as vocalist during the recording of 'The Grand Machinery'. This revised version of CONSTRUCDEAD made its live debut on 7th July at the 'Sundsvall Gatufestival' in Sundsvall. Touring throughout Scandinavia, the UK and Europe in October saw the band supporting SOILWORK. Broman also rejoined THE DEFACED that same month.

'The Grand Machinery' saw a belated Japanese release through Teichiku Records in February 2006, this version adding another three tracks. CONSTRUCDEAD entered Studio Cosmos on December 2nd with producer Jocke Skog to cut new tracks.

Black Lodge released the album 'Endless Echo', recorded at Not Quite Studio with producers Klas Ideberg and Peter Wildoer of DARKANE, in August 2009. RAISE HELL and CONSTRUCDEAD co-headlined the 'STHLM Thrashfest 2009' event on 30th May at Nalen in central Stockholm.
