Biography

Despite only having performed three gigs, Stockholm's CARNAGE, who featured ex-DISMEMBER drummer Fred Estby and former CARBONISED and DISMEMBER singer Matti Kärki in their line-up, play a pivotal part in the historical lineage of Swedish Death Metal.

The band debuted with a live single in 1989, which was recorded by Estby, guitarist Mike Amott, bassist Johnny Dordevic and vocalist / guitarist Johan Axelsson. Although recorded in Stockholm it only saw a release in Mexico. A debut album 'Dark Recollections' emerged during 1990 as a split affair with CADAVER. Much of this material was re-recorded material from two earlier DISMEMBER demos, 1988's 'Dismembered' and 1989's 'Last Blasphemies'. Axelsson soon left to join JESUS EXERCIZE then FURBOWL and and was replaced by another ex-DISMEMBER man, namely David Blomqvist.

In the wake of the band's split, Mike Amott later joined UK outfit CARCASS before forming SPIRITUAL BEGGARS and higher profile ARCH ENEMY. Dordevic joined ENTOMBED as lead vocalist. Estby, Blomqvist and Kärki reformed DISMEMBER. The drummer also carved himself out a considerable reputation on the production front.

The 'Dark Recollections' album would see a re-issue through Earache Records in 2000 with bonus demo tracks and different artwork.
