Biography

A genuine Death-Black Metal supergroup endeavour. The unholy Stockholm based union includes DAN SWANÖ, an industrious figure claiming involvement with a slew of acts including NIGHTINGALE, UNICORN, EDGE OF SANITY, INFESTDEAD, ODYSSEY and PAN-THY-MONIUM amongst others, OPETH's Mikael Akerfeldt, KATATONIA and DIABOLICAL MASQUERADE's guitarist Blackheim and KATATONIA and OCTOBER TIDE bassist Jonas Renske. The 'Breeding Death' EP, recorded in January 1999, was released in February 2000, preceding their album debut. The debut full-length 'Resurrection Through Carnage' album arrived in November 2002 courtesy of Century Media Records. With OPETH's rise to global popularity Akerfeldt would be forced to relinquish his position.

In March of 2004 the band would be joined by singer Peter Tägtgren, frontman for HYPOCRISY and PAIN, and drummer Martin 'Axe' Axenrot of BLASPHEMOUS, MORGUE, COVEN, TRIUMPHATOR, WITCHERY, SATANIC SLAUGHTER and N.C.O. repute. A sophomore album 'Nightmares Made Flesh' would at first be scheduled for Autumn release, once again through Century Media. US versions hosted not only an extra two tracks, in the form of previously unreleased demos from the 'Breeding Death' sessions, but all new artwork from Wes Benscoter too. However, the North American launch would then be pushed back even further to March 2005.

BLOODBATH revealed their live debut, conducted by a revised cast of musicians, would be held at the August 'Wacken Open Air' festival in Germany. However, Peter Tägtgren was to back out, due to "conflicting schedules", and the band announced Mike Åkerfeldt would make a return for the gig. That same month Martin Axenrot temporarily joined the ranks of OPETH for European touring, covering for regular drummer Martin López who was forced out due to medical concerns.

Dan Swanö opted out in July 2006. In November the group re-issued its 1999 EP 'Breeding Death', adding demo recordings of the tracks 'Breeding Death' and 'Omnious Bloodvomit'.
