BURNING DARKNESS

Biography

BURNING DARKNESS are a Sollentuna based Black Metal band created in December 1999 by keyboard player Josephine Forsberg and bassist Mathias Arvidsson, soon adding Manuel and Thomas Germanizer on guitar and German Quezada on the drums. Initially the band name GHAZURZ BURZUM was suggested but an English translation of BURNING DARKNESS was settled on. Per Kolderup Finstad of SVARTUR DÖDUR was enlisted on lead vocals and, with the dismissal of Manuel, another SVARTUR DÖDUR man, Sebastian Stenerdal, was recruited to fill the guitar vacancy. This formation was all set to debut live in October 2000. However, Forsberg quit just prior to the gig, returning briefly afterward and then leaving once more. At this juncture BURNING DARKNESS opted to persevere without a keyboard player.

An opening demo, 'Risen Out Of Hell' featuring a cover version of IRON MAIDEN's 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', was launched in that November. Arvidsson, committed to military national service, bowed out in 2001, his place being taken by Ville "Ishamael" Andersson. Stenerdal too then exited and Joel Brink swiftly stepped in as substitute as the band cut their second demo 'As Night Falls'.In the Autumn of 2002 Germanizer switched to keyboards briefly before leaving. Brink too quit and BURNING DARKNESS set about rehearsing with new members. This new format did not gel though and Brink was re-recruited. Pulling in the temporary services of bassist Erik Holmberg the group then crafted a third demo, 'Rites Of Mist', recorded with session bassist Moncho. The band's fluid state continued as female keyboard player Mortisaga was recruited but then both Ishamael and Skuggan left the band.

Quezada would also operate THYARITA alongside the LIBICRUM pairing of singer Joonas and guitarist Peter, INCENDIARY guitarist Pontus. BURNING DARKNESS subsequently added new singer 'Crast' (a.k.a. Fredrik Huldtgren). During 2004 Crast, Alrinach and Mortisaga prioritised side project DIMUNITION.
