VINTERSORG, hailing from Skellefteå, functioned as a one man endeavour for many years after multi instrumentalist Vintersorg (a.k.a. Andreas Hedlund) split away from his former band YARGATRON in 1994. Vintersorg is also lead vocalist for HAVAYOTH, AXIOLOGY (previously entitled FREQUENCIES), SPACE ON EARTH and has another project outing the folkloric OTYG.

The VINTERSORG project debuted for Austrian label Napalm Records with July 1998's 'Hedniskhjärtad' EP. Guesting in the studio would be Marcus Norman (a.k.a. Vargher) of NAGLFAR, ANCIENT WISDOM, HAVAYOTH and BEWITCHED plus OTYG female vocalist Cia Hedmark. Session players for VINTERSORG's December 1998 'Till Fjalls' and November 1999's 'Ödemakens Son' included keyboard player Vargher, MODEST URGE guitarist Andreas Frank and female vocals from Cia Hedmark again.

The 2000 album 'Cosmic Genesis' album saw VINTERSORG joined by OTYG and CASKET CASEY guitarist Mattias Marklund. Keyboards for a live version of VINTERSORG came courtesy of ALSVARTR, GRAND ALCHEMIST and OLD MAN'S CHILD's Vidvandre (Christer Pedersen). The VINTERSORG live unit would be rounded out with the inclusion of MORS OSCULI guitarist Andreas Stenlund, KHARMA COSMIC keyboard player Mikael Israelsson and FISSION and MODEST URGE drummer Benny Hägglund. That same year Vintersorg would enroll himself into Black Metal veterans BORKNAGAR as their new frontman. For 2002's 'Visions From The Spiral Generation' the band utilised the services of TESTAMENT, DEATH and SADUS credited bass player Steve DiGiorgio. Drums would be sessioned by Asgeir Mickelson, a scene veteran of BORGNAGAR, ANESTHESIA, LUNARIS and SPIRAL ARCHITECT.

The band readied a concept album, 'The Focusing Blur', for issue in 2004. Further activites found Vintersorg collaborating with VINTERSORG live session drummer Benny "Hägge" Hägglund in a new Thrash venture entitled FISSION. 2005 saw the formation of CRONIAN, a venture seeing Vintersorg collaborating with BORKNAGAR colleague Øystein Garnes Brun, and a further Hedlund solo concern, the 70s Progressive Rock concept WATERCLIME for the debut album 'The Astral Factor'.

VINTERSORG set 'Solens Rötter' ("The Sun's Roots") as the title of their next album. Mixing took place in January 2007 at Ballerina Audio with engineer Nils Johansson.
