STEEL ATTACK

Biography

With a name like STEEL ATTACK this Sala based outfit could only ever be a Power Metal band. The group began life as MAYER'S EVE during 1995 but an ever fluctuating line-up resulted in an eventual title switch to STEEL ATTACK during 1997. Guitarist John Allen joined the fold in May of 1998 and a demo session billed 'Mighty Sword Of Power' secured a deal with the German based AFM Records label.

STEEL ATTACK debuted with the P.O. Saether produced 'Where Mankind Fails' in 1999. Live work was limited but did include an appearance at the German 2000 'Wacken Open Air' festival. STEEL ATTACK returned in 2001 with sophomore release 'Fall Into Madness', this version of the band incorporating vocalist Steve Steel, guitarist John Allan, second guitarist Dennis Westman and drummer Roger Raw. However, the latter backed out and Andreas De Vera, who had previously laid down the drums on 'Where Mankind Fails', rejoined.

The band would draft a new singer, ex-SLICE OF LEMON man Dick Johnson, for a second appearance at the 'Wacken Open Air' festival in 2001. In September of that year STEEL ATTACK drafted Patrick "Psycho-Pat" Späth of GANG BANG and SPANKING NURSES on bass but before the year was out De Vera exited. Mike Stark, credited with prior membership of GALLANTRY, SERVANTS OF GLORY and SADUAK, took his place for high profile concerts at the 2002 New Jersey 'Metal Meltdown' and 'Sweden Rock' festivals.

The band introduced new singer Ronny Hemlin of LACK OF FAITH repute during November of 2003. A new album entitled 'Enslaved', recorded at Black Lounge Studios and mastered by Peter In de Betou, emerged in 2004. STEEL ATTACK, alongside Germany's BLACK ABYSS, lent support to veteran Canadian Thrashers EXCITER on a European tour beginning in early October.

During 2004 both guitarist Dennis Westman and bass player Patrick Späth exited forge SOULSKINNER, being joined in this new venture by the CARNAL FORGE and ASPERITY credited Petri Kuusisto on second guitar, DAMNED NATION singer Thomas Thorsen and SCAAR and VANESSA drummer Rickard Holmgren.

STEEL ATTACK entered Black Lounge Studios in December 2005 with engineer Jonas Kjellgren to cut a new album entitled 'Diabolic Symphony'. In June 2006 it would be announced that Ronny Hemlin had forged a fresh Ȫrnsköldsvik based band unit, dubbed PLANET STORM, in alliance with DESTYNATION and ETERNIA guitarist Ronny Blylod, the AMETHYST pairing of guitarist Johannes Forsberg and bass player David Lindegren, keyboard player Daniel Nitsche and drummer Samuel Andersson.

In February 2007 it was announced that Stefan Westerberg had joined forces with a brand new, melodic Death Metal inclined project called KRYPTILLUSION. Kristofer Nilsson of UNDIVINE handled lead vocals whilst Mike Wead, of KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE, featured on lead guitar and Fredrik Groth from THE STORYTELLER assumed bass duties.

Guitarist Simon Johansson exited in January 2009 as Johan Jalonen Penn returned to the ranks.
