CHASTISEMENT, created during 1995 by the guitar duo of Fredrik Magnusson and Marcus Edvardsson, is a melodic Death Metal unit from the northern town of Östersund. In 1997 drummer Nils Fjellström, also active with AEON, SANCTIFICATION and IN BATTLE, joined the fold. CHASTISEMENT recorded the demos '... But Lost We Are' in 1999 and 'Alleviation Of Pain' during 2002. The band underwent a major overhaul in 2002 as bassist Per Gabrielsson lost out to Nicklas Linnes, Magnusson was replaced by Tommy Larson and Johan Klitkou was introduced on lead vocals.

Besides their endeavours with CHASTISEMENT Klitkou, Edvardsson, Larsson and Fjellström are also involved with SOULDRAINER. Tommy Larsen joined JAGGERNAUT then in August of 2005 enrolled into the ranks of DREAM EVIL. However, in February 2006 the bassist joined HEED, the group assembled by erstwhile LOST HORIZON members singer Daniel Heiman and guitarist Fredrik Olsson.

2006 witnessed the formation of neo-Thrash Metal act ENDLESS TORTURE, a union between Marcus Edvardsson, A*TEEM vocalist Peter Mellgren plus Tom Åsvold, from PAINCRAZE and DIMENSION34, on drums.
