DARKANE guitarist Christofer Malmström readied a solo project for 2004 release billed as NON-HUMAN LEVEL, this venture including studio contributions from MESHUGGAH bassist Gustaf Hielm, DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND and GOD AWAKENS PETRIFIED drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen and his DARKANE colleague drummer Peter Wildoer, the latter taking on a lead vocal role.

Signing a deal with France's Listenable Records in early 2005, the bulk of the material would be recorded at Not Quite Studios in Helsingborg whilst Ryan van Poederooyen cut his drums at Greenhouse studios in Vancouver, Canada. Japanese versions of the self-titled opus, released through Soundholic Records, featured a cover version of W.A.S.P.'s 'I Wanna Be Somebody'.
