FALCONER is the brainchild of erstwhile MITHOTYN guitarist Stefan Weinerhall. Also operates the side project ATRYXION, Weinerhall has credits with DISRUPTION and GENETIC MUTATION and, as 'Asmodeus', had been a member of INDUNGEON. Drummer Karsten Larsson has a Black Metal endeavour entitled CHOIR OF VENGEANCE. Demos were cut during 2000 with vocalist Matthias Blad which scored a deal with the Metal Blade label. Blad's reputation had been made not in other bands but as a theatre singer. At the time of joining FALCONER he was also rehearsing his upcoming lead role in a production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.

Weinerhall's MITHOTYN colleague and ex-DAWN drummer Karsten Larsson joined the fold in time for recording of the eponymous album.

The resulting record, produced by KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque and issued in March 2001 in Europe and May in America, received glowing reviews for it's traditional styling. European additions included the bonus track 'Per Tyrssons Dottar I Vange'. FALCONER entered the studio with La Rocque in November 2001 to lay down the follow up album 'Chapters For A Vale Forlorn'.

Changes in the band structure saw the introduction of guitarist Anders Johansson and bassist Peder Johansson during late 2002. In January 2003 the band severed ties with vocalist Mathias Blad and swiftly replaced him with DESTINY frontman Kristoffer Göbel. The band paired up with AXENSTAR and DOOMSWORD for European shows throughout January 2004. The band severed ties with second guitarist Anders Johansson and bassist Peder Johansson in May. The pair, ejected after a physical altercation between band members after a gig in Motala, decamped to concentrate on their other band GUINEAPIGS. FALCONER, gearing up to record a new album entitled 'Grime Vs. Grandeur', drafted Magnus Linhardt on bass in August and guitarist Jimmy Hedlund in September.

The Swedmetal label issued a split single shared with NOCTURNAL RITES in 2005, the 7", limited to 500 copies, including the track 'Rock 'n' Roll Devil'. In November FALCONER replaced vocalist Kristoffer Göbel with the band's former singer Matthias Blade to cut a new album entitled 'Northwind'. Jimmy Hedlund joined SUPREME MAJESTY in March 2006. Later that year on the live front Kristoffer Göbel was to ally himself with Snowy Shaw (a.k.a. Tommy Helgesson), of THERION, MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND and DREAM EVIL, plus Michael Åberg, from NOSTRADAMEUS, in covers band METAL FÜR ALLE, performing gigs locally in the Gothenburg area.

In April 2007 FALCONER extended their contract with Metal Blade Records for a further four albums.
