Biography

Despite only managing a brace of demos Linköping's MORGUE has a membership that streches weblike into the fabric of the Swedish extreme Metal scene. The band was assembled in December 1990 by erstwhile ORCHRISTE personnel guitarist Ztephan "Dark" Karlsson, also ex-MORBIDITY, and drummer Imse. In January of the following MORGUE was brought up to full strength with the addition of vocalist Halle, second guitarist Jalle and bassist Esa. However, before the year was out the second guitar position had been taken by ex-DAWN man Andreas Fullmestad and bass was in the hands of Kecke. This version of MORGUE fractured just prior to entering Dan Swanö´s Unisound Studios to record a 1992 demo 'Gospel Of Gore'. The demo actually featured TOTAL DEATH's Mique Flesh (a.k.a. Micke Pettersson) on drums. Fullmestad decamped and Kecke was delegated guitar duties. A track from these sessions, 'Stabbed Beyond Recognition', found its way onto the Nuclear Blast compilation album 'Grindcore Sampler'.

Operating without a permanent bassist, MORGUE undertook live work utilising Peter Blomberg and Patrik Johansson, both colleagues of Dark's from his other act SATANIC SLAUGHTER. A second demo, 'In Articulo Mortis', arrived in 1994. Although Kecke once again handled bass in the studio MORGUE subsequently introduced Rille (a.k.a. Richard Corpse) to cover the four string role. In 1996 a mass defection witnessed Imse, Halle, Rille all bailing out. Rille later came to attention as a member of WITCHERY.

Ztephan Dark pursued SATANIC SLAUGHTER with a vengeance but decided on resurrecting the MORGUE name in 2000. Joining him in this revised version of the band would be his SATANIC SLAUGHTER comrades singer Andreas Deblèn, guitarist Stefan Johansson and drummer Martin 'Axe' Axenrot. Deblèn has connections with SPITEFUL and DERANGED, Johansson with NOCTURNAL MESSENGER and BLASPHEMOUS whilst Axenrot ('Axenroth') boasts a lineage of BLASPHEMOUS, COVEN, NIFELHEIM, WITCHERY, TRIUMPHATOR and as 'Demon Pounding Devestator' in NIFELHEIM. By 2003 the drummer was in the employ of N.C.O. ('Nephenzy Chaos Order'), featuring on their album 'Pure Black Disease'. In August 2005 Martin Axenrot temporarily joined the ranks of OPETH for European touring, covering for regular drummer Martin López who was forced out due to medical concerns.
