OBDURACY guitarist Andreas Fullmested and MORGUE guitarist Fredrik Söderberg formed DAWN in Linköping during late 1991 after they left their respective acts. Membership was completedwith additions from FUNERAL FEAST and MESENTARY. Two demo cassettes followed in 1992's 'Demo 1' and 'Apparition' in 1993, with the latter being eventually released as a 7" EP the same year on a shared EP with PYPHOMGERTUM.

The DAWN debut album arrived in 1995 and its title is translated as 'When The Sun Sets Forever' and boasts lyrics in medieval Swedish.

Outside the confines of DAWN vocalist Henke Fors has found the time to perform temporary vocal duties for fellow Swedes IN FLAMES appearing on their debut mini-album. The singer also found time to create an extreme Black Metal band called NIDEN DIV. 187 with A CANOUROUS QUINTET guitarist Leo Pignon and members of THY PRIMORDIAL, releasing two albums for Necropolis Records: 'Towards Judgement' and 'Impergium'.

Extra curricular activity clearly being contagious in Swedish Death Metal circles, DAWN bassist Lars Tängmark also conducted a side project with the Gothic act THE WOUNDED MEADOW.

DAWN reappeared in 1996 with the mini-album 'Sorgh Pa Sverte Vingar Flogh' (or, translated. 'Sorrow Flew On Black Wings') and featured a cover version of INFERNAL MAJESTY's 'Night Of The Living Dead'. Söderberg would resurrect his old group CRANIUM as a side project during 1998 issuing three albums. DAWN's then drummer Jocke Pettersson is also known as 'Morth' in THY PRIMORDIAL and has sessioned with both UNMOORED and CRANIUM.

In 1998 DAWN, now relocated to Stockholm, took a significant step forward with the album 'Slaughtersun (Crown Of The Triarchy)'. Early 1999 marked the introduction of a new drummer Alzazmon (a.k.a. Tomas Asklund), erstwhile member of DARK FUNERAL. Later that year Söderberg travelled to North America for a promotion tour and whilst there laid down backing vocals on US Speed Metal band DEKAPITATOR's debut album. That Autumn DEFENDER, AFFLICTED and CRANIUM's Philip von Segebaden was inducted as DAWN's new bassist. Segebaden had already contributed his lyrical skills to DAWN, his words featured on 'Slaughtersun (Crown Of The Triarchy)'.

DAWN strengthened their line-up in early 2000 by drafting second guitarist, Stefan Lundgren, also known as the guitarist of NECROMICON. Asklund returned the favour by aiding on session drums for the NECROMICON album 'Peccata Mundi'.

Whilst the band, signing to Music Network Records Group, set to work on a brand new album during 2003, entitled 'The Fourfold Furnace', it was revealed that Necropolis Records had picked up the early albums for re-release. The band roster in 2003 comprised Fredrik Söderberg, Henke Forss, Philip von Segebaden and Tomas Asklund. The latter would join DISSECTION in 2004.
