SEANCE came into being from an amalgamation of two Linköping acts ORCHRISTE, featuring singer Johan Larsson and guitarist Patrick Jensen having released the 1989 demo 'Necromonicon', and TOTAL DEATH in 1990, the band name SEANCE coming from an ORCHRISTE song title. December 1990 saw the first SÉANCE gig, with the Swedes playing alongside MERCILESS and TOXAEMIA. A second concert was conducted as support for DISHARMONIC ORCHESTRA.

The group's first demo, 'Levitised Spirit', was released in August 1991and gained the band a deal with Black Mark Records. After the release of the 1992 'Fornever Laid To Rest' album, recorded at Berno Studio in Malmö with producer Berno Paulsson, bassist Bino (Christian Karlsson) lost his place to ex-MORGUE man Richard Rimfält. Second album 'Saltrubbed Eyes', again crafted at Berno Studio with Berno Paulsson behind the desk, followed for Black Mark in 1993. In 1996 the band contributed their version of 'Post Mortem' to the SLAYER tribute album 'Slatanic Slaughter I'.

Both Patrick Jensen and Bino relocated to Gothenburg during 1997, intending to form a new act with AT THE GATES man Adrian Erlandsson, leaving Johan Larsson, Tony Kampner and Mique Flesh to continue on as SEANCE. The band intended on recording a fresh album for Necropolis Records but this never eventuated. When the group dissolved, various members founded trad Metal act WITCHERY. As well as WITCHERY, drummer Mique Flesh, vocalist Toxine (a.k.a. Tony Kampner) and guitarists Patrick Jensen and Richard also performed in SATANIC SLAUGHTER. Jensen subsequently formed THE HAUNTED with former AT THE GATES personnel. Karlsson went on to join DIABOLIQUE. Mique Flesh forged FREEVIL during 2006.

SEANCE reformed for the December 2008 album 'Awakening Of The Gods' for release through Pulverised Records.
