MOONLIGHT AGONY is a progressively inclined Power Metal outfit. The band was formulated in Kungsbacka during September of 1999, at first taking on the title THORIN. In this guise, and with a repertoire comprising BLIND GUARDIAN and HELLOWEEN covers, the band formed up as vocalist / guitarist Robert Willstedt, guitarist Kalle Landin, bass player Christofer Starnefalk and drummer Jimmy Elmgren. Regrouping the band ejected Elmgren, switching Willstedt over to drums, and enrolled second guitarist Andreas Lindvall. In the Spring of 2000 Martin Mellström joined the fold as the group evolved into MOONLIGHT SONATA, first as vocalist, then guitarist before settling into keyboard duties. Christian Karlsson then entered as frontman to record the March 2001 'Dust' demo, this signalling the final name revision to MOONLIGHT AGONY. Also around this time Willstedt, maintaining his band ties, joined Gothenburg Power Metal band DRAGONLAND.

Compulsory military service affected the band's schedule throughout 2001 and Lindvall opted out in October. Karlsson would follow him but undaunted MOONLIGHT AGONY cut a further demo entitled 'Echoes Of A Nightmare' in September of 2002, this seeing Landin assuming vocal responsibilities.

During November 2002 the group pulled in new guitarist Rikard Petersson and lead singer Simon Hermansson. In August 2003 MOONLIGHT AGONY inducted Chitral Somapala from FARO and the German acts COURT JESTER and AVALON as their new frontman. Somapala would be drafted as a quick fire substitute to from FIREWIND's tour of Japan in January 2004. Chity Somapala delivered a new side project RED CIRCUIT, co-instigated by ex-SHEELA man Markus Teske, for the album 'Trance State' in February 2006.

In March Somapala announced the formation of a new "atmospheric, bone-crushing power metal" band called CIVILIZATION ONE. Here he would be joined by an international roster of players comprising guitarist Aldo Lanobile of SECRET SPHERE, bassist Pierre-Emmanuel Pélisson of HEAVENLY and MALADAPTIVE, the SHADRANE and LALU credited Vivian Lalu on keyboards plus Luca Cartasegna, from MORTUARY DRAPE and SECRET SPHERE on drums. Chitral Somapala joined DOMAIN in November 2006.

MOONLIGHT AGONY's second album, 'Silent Waters', was recorded at Division One Studios with engineer Arnold Lindberg for 2007 issue through Dockyard 1 Records.
