Swedish Metal band WINTERLONG, based out of Kalix, had their August 2001 debut album 'Valley Of The Lost' produced by renowned guitarist LARS ERIC MATTSON and featuring guest keyboards from Italian virtuoso MISTHERIA. During March of 2002 guitar player THȪRBJORN ENGLUND was reportedly replaced by JAVELIN, THE STORYTELLER and ENDOMORPH Payre 'Parka' Kankanranta, a former colleague of vocalist Hussni Mörsare's previous act JAVELIN and also citing membership of Belgian Progressive Metal band KARYAN.

Confusingly, it would then be revealed that Englund was in fact assembling a new look WINTERLONG, minus singer Hussni Morsare, for a June 2002 album 'The Second Coming'. Session drums for this effort would be provided by Anders Johansson of YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and HAMMERFALL repute as well as Andreas Lill of VANDEN PLAS. Mikael Holm would handle lead vocals with MISTHERIA once again in evidence on keyboards. Meantime, the Mörsare led unit forged VIPERINE.

A further project, billed as STAR QUEEN, had both Thorbjörn Englund and Erik Tornberg working alongside LARS ERIC MATTSON, vocalist Stella Tormanoff, Bob Katsionis keyboard player and drummer Tony Eriksson for a 2002 album through the Finnish Lion Music label.

The band donated their rendition of DEEP PURPLE's 'Highway Star' to the 2003 'Blackmore's Castle - A Tribute to Deep Purple and Rainbow' album issued by Lion Music. Mikael Long guested on the 2004 BOOK OF REFLECTIONS debut, a mainly Scandinavian "All star" symphonic, neo-classical Power Metal project assembled by LARS ERIC MATTSON.

The ex-WINTERLONG players in VIPERINE, cut an opening, three song demo in 2003, the band being the first signing to the Canadian Metal Rules label with their 'The Predator Awakens' album. In early 2005 Payre Kankanranta was announced as having joined reformed British Thrash Metal act ATOMKRAFT. That same year Thorbjörn Englund guested on MISTHERIA's 'Messengers Of The Gods' album. Mikael Holm sessioned on TOWER OF STONE's demo 'The Sacred Dragon'.
