Biography

DARKANE founders guitarist Christofer Malmström, bass player Jörgen Löfberg and drummer Peter Wildoer were previously members of noted technical Metal band AGRETATOR. Both Malmström and Wildoer had also been involved with eighties Power Metal band ZANINEZ. The duo forged DARKANE with the enlistment of second guitarist Klas Ideberg of Helsingborg Thrashers HYSTE'RIAH G.B.C., bassist Jörgen Löfberg and singer Lawrence Mackrory, of irreverent Thrashers F.K.Ü. (Freddy Krueger's Ünderwear), and bowed in with the impressive 'Rusted Angel' record. Released originally by Wrong Again Records in Scandinavia, US license was granted to Regain Records who re-issued the album adding extra live tracks.

Ex-vocalist Lawrence Mackrory would guest session on the 1998 THE MIST OF AVALON record as backing singer and also the 1999 ANDROMEDA debut album 'Extension Of The Wish'. He would later found FORCEFEED releasing an EP 'Soil', later changing this band name to SEETHINGS.

DARKANE reconvened for a sophomore Daniel Bergstrand produced opus entitled 'Insanity'. This outing also marked the debut of new vocalist Andreas Sydow. Promoting 'Insanity' the band would put in their inaugural United States show at the 'Milwaukee Metalfest' in 2001. Japanese versions of the album, released on the Toys Factory label, would see a bonus track with a live rendition of 'Convicted'.

Jörgen Löfberg and guitarist Klas Ideberg, along with SOILWORK's drummer Henry Ranta and vocalist Henrik Sjöwall and guitarist Mattias Svensson would forge a project band entitled THE DEFACED. Ideberg is also involved with TERROR 2000.

DARKANE would be set to release a new album, 'Expanding Senses', co-produced by Daniel Bergstrand and former MISERY LOVES COMPANY member Örjan Örnkloo, in August of 2002 through Nuclear Blast. Coincidently the same production team would work on ex-DARKANE member Lawrence Mackrory's SEETHINGS debut album. Mackrory also figured on THE DUSKFALL debut 'Frailty' as a session guest. Peter Wildoer found time in his schedule to act as session drummer for Gothic Metal band DAWN OF OBLIVION.

The band put in a short burst of UK shows during November packaged with CRIMINAL and DESCENT and Dutch gigs supported by FUELBLOODED before travelling to Japan for gigs with MASTODON and HIGH ON FIRE. DARKANE would lend support to BEHEMOTH for gigs in Poland during December.

The band's continuing ascendency would be further progressed as DARKANE was confirmed as participants in the April 2003 European 'No Mercy' festivals. The group formed up part of a heavyweight billing comprising TESTAMENT, MARDUK, DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, PRO-PAIN, MALEVOLENT CREATION, DEATH ANGEL, and CALLENISH CIRCLE. An extensive run of European shows in November caught the band packaged with DISBELIEF, MNEMIC, MYSTIC PROPHECY and headliners DEATH ANGEL. However, upon completion of these gigs Wildoer, having suffered from a wrist injury dating back to February, was forced out of band activities in order to recuperate.

DARKANE guitarist Christofer Malmström readied a solo project for 2004 release billed as NON-HUMAN LEVEL, this venture including studio contributions from MESHUGGAH bassist Gustaf Hielm, DEVIN TOWNSEND band and GOD AWAKENS PETRIFIED drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen and his DARKANE colleague drummer Peter Wildoer, the latter taking on a lead vocal role. Wildoer eased himself back into the drumming role by working up tracks with Rock n' Roll outfit BEN. Meantime ex-DARKANE frontman Lawrence Mackrory re-emerged in 2004 as bassist for Death Thrashers ENEMY IS US and also sessioned demos for SCAVENGER.

In January 2005 Andreas Sydow contributed guitar work for Spanish Thrash Metal band LEGEN BELTZA's conceptual track dubbed 'War of Wars' included on their album 'Dimension Of Pain'. That same month DARKANE set a working title of 'Layers Of Lies' for their new album, established for June 2005 release. Japanese versions added a traditional bonus track in 'Subliminal Seduction'. Meantime, guitarist Christofer Malmström signed a deal with France's Listenable Records for his solo project, NON-HUMAN LEVEL featuring DEVIN TOWNSEND drummer Ryan van Poederooyen.

October 28th in Lawrence, Kansas, marked the start of a US tour, the band forming up a bill comprising FEAR FACTORY, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and IT DIES TODAY. Fellow Swedish act SOILWORK was added to the bill from November 8th. Drummer Peter Wildoer joined up with SOILWORK on a temporary basis, covering on summer 2006 shows at the 'Festimad' event in Madrid, Spain plus shows in Piteå and Malmö. Guitarist Klas Ideberg also got in on the temping act, subbing for HYPOCRISY's October North American tour. That same month former singer Lawrence Mackrory sessioned on album recordings for French band SCARVE.

DARKANE hit the road in North America in early 2009 for a massive tour alongside SOILWORK, WARBRINGER and SWALLOW THE SUN commencing 30th January in Rochester, New York at the Penny Arcade and wrapping up at the Sonar in Baltimore, Maryland on 22nd March. However, Klas Ideberg left the tour due to illness and was replaced for nine shows by ONWARD's Toby Knapp. Unfortunately this substitute too fell ill and DARKANE persevered as a quartet.
