CLOUDSCAPE

Biography

Helsingborg Progressive Metal outfit CLOUDSCAPE is rooted in the 1992 band DOCTOR WEIRD, this unit comprising guitarists Björn Eliasson and Patrik 'Svärra' Svärd, former ALYSON AVENUE drummer Roger 'Mini' Landin, Anders Johansson on bass guitar and vocalist Björn Persson. Svärd's musical heritage included terms with ASH, Death Metal band LEPROSY, BAI BANG and ALYSON AVENUE. In 1995 the band released a four track EP but in the following year Landin would be replaced by Peter Mosebach as that same year the group inducted former ZANINEZ man Micael Andersson as keyboard player. Further changes in 1999 found Hans Persson usurping Johansson for the bass position. A twelve song album entitled 'Changes' would be recorded but never released.

Subsequently, DOCTOR WEIRD hit further turbulent times as both Mosebach and Björn Persson decamped, Landin rejoined, Andersson took on lead vocal responsibilities. Opting to start afresh, this formation took on the revised band title of CLOUDSCAPE during 2002. Demos cut in 2003 would land the group a recording contract with the UK based Now & Then label in December. The band entered the Malmö Roasting House Studios in early April of 2004 with producer Anders Theander to craft a debut album. That same month the the CLOUDSCAPE trio of guitarist Patrik Svärd, bassist Hans Persson and drummer Roger Landin all joined fellow Swedish melodic Rockers SHIVA for live work. Amidst all this activity, Micke Andersson found time to guest on Christian Rivel of NARNIA's ambitious epic Rock project AUDIOVISION's 'The Calling' album.

Although the debut CLOUDSCAPE album had originally been announced as having been signed to Now & Then Records, by October the group revealed they had in fact switched labels to the German label Metal Heaven, with Avalon Marquee handling the record for Japan. A promotional video for the song 'Under Fire' was directed by Rainer Holmgren.

By 2005 ex-vocalist Björn Persson would be singing in a cover act called ZIPPY ZOO whilst both Roger Landin and Patrik Svard had vacated ALYSON AVENUE and Landin had also opted out of SECOND HEAT. Meantime, CLOUDSCAPE themselves would be in preperation for a new studio album, 'Crimson Skies', utilising Malmö Roasting House once again.

Working with guitarist Magnus Karlsson of LAST TRIBE, MIDNIGHT SUN and STARBREAKER, Mike Andersson initiated an all star project dubbed PLANET ALLIANCE for a 2006 album. The singer also sessioned for Swiss project-band SILENT MEMORIAL and SUN CAGED guitarist MARCEL COENEN's solo outing 'Colour Journey'. Andersson contributed guest lead vocal tracks to a cover version of MONTROSE's 'Black Train' for inclusion on OVERDRIVE and LOCOMOTIVE BREATH guitarist Janne Stark's November 2006 MOUNTAIN OF POWER tribute collection.

The Metal Heaven label released CLOUDSCAPES 'Crimson Skies' album in Europe during June 2006 with Nightmare Records securing a North American license. Once again utilising the services of producers Pontus Lindmark and Anders Theander the band booked sessions for a third album, entitled 'Global Drama', at RoastingHouse studio in Malmö commencing September 3rd. A promotional video for the song 'Darkest Legacy' was directed by Rainer Holmgren.

The group performed at the 'ProgPower Scandinavia' festival on November 1st 2008 at The Rock in Copenhagen, Denmark featuring alongside Sweden's PAIN OF SALVATION, DEAD SOUL TRIBE, Germany's LANFEAR and US outfit ZERO HOUR.

CLOUDSCAPE parted ways with bassist Haynes Pherson in June 2009, swiftly replacing him with Håkan Nyander from SUPREME MAJESTY. Björn Eliasson, suffering from spinal injuries, was forced to sit out the band's performance at the Prog Metal Fest in Oslo on 22nd August.
