Biography

Female fronted AOR band dating back to the mid 80s. Originally fronted by a male vocalist the group began to carve its own identity with the addition of Annette Blyckert, later known as Annette Olzon. By 1997 Helsingborg's ALYSON AVENUE had actually folded but renewed interest brought the members back together. ALYSON AVENUE's November 2000 album 'Presence Of Mind' saw drastic changes in the bands guitar department. Alongside present day guitarist Jarmo Piironen the act re-enrolled erstwhile guitarists Christoffer Dahlman, of BAI BANG, and Tony Rohtla. Also lending a hand would be the ASH, LEPROSY, BAI BANG and DOCTOR WEIRD credited six stringer Patrik 'Svärra' Svärd and backing vocals from another DOCTOR WEIRD member Micael Andersson. Drummer Roger Landin later teamed up with DOCTOR WEIRD and CLOUDSCAPE.

In April of 2004 keyboard player Niclas Olsson joined fellow Swedish melodic Rockers SHIVA for live work. That same year guitarist Patrik Svärd, bassist Thomas Löyskä, keyboard player Niclas Olsson and drummer Roger Landin forged side project SECOND HEAT for an eponymous album. ALYSON AVENUE returned to the stage, breaking a decade's absence from live work, at the KB venue in Malmö on 29th May 2005. However, guitarist Christofer Dahlman left the day after the show.

In late 2004 Anette Blyckert submitted an application to high profile Finnish act NIGHTWISH as proposed replacement for TARJA TURUNEN. Her demo comprised a rendition of 'Ever Dream', which prompted a reply from the band within just one week. Olzon was then asked to record over an instrumental version of 'Once' on the songs 'Nemo', 'Higher Than Hope', 'Wish I Had An Angel' and 'Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan'. With speculation as to the possible identity of a new NIGHTWISH vocalist rife amongst the media, Blyckert's name was missed as more familiar candidates were theorized upon.

In March NIGHTWISH issued a statement asking for further demo submissions for the vacant vocalist position. Although having been advised she had not been a successful applicant, Annette Blyckert sent in further material to the band, a live DVD of ALYSON AVENUE. Shortly afterward ALYSON AVENUE returned to the stage, breaking a decade's absence from live work, at the KB venue in Malmö on May 29th. However, guitarist Christofer Dahlman left the day after the show.

NIGHTWISH asked Annette Blyckert for a meeting in August and demoed tracks in early September 2006. Although still at that stage yet to announce the name of their new vocalist, NIGHTWISH commenced fresh recordings on September 15th. Blyckert returned to Kittee in October to put down more material. In 2006 Annette Blyckert also sang a duet with MICHAEL BORMANN, the ex-JADED HEART singer, on his solo album 'Conspiracy'.

Still with her identity yet to be revealed to fans, Annette Blyckert was offered the NIGHTWISH position on January 30th 2007 in a phone conversation with band leader and keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen. NIGHTWISH announced they were to release a new, internet only single, entitled 'Eva', on May 30th. The group announced that their new singer's identity would be revealed simultaneously in a press statement and on the band's website that same day.

However, an internet leak of a 30 second soundclip of 'Eva' prompted the band to re-strategize and the 'Eva' single was brought forward to a May 24th download release via NetAnttila. On this same day NIGHTWISH named their new singer as Annette Olzon (a.k.a. Annette Blyckert). Erstwhile ALYSON AVENUE personnel duly formed SAPPHIRE, a band unit fronted by Thomas Bursell of SECOND HEAT.

In July 2008, bassist Thomas Löyskä posted online that ALYSON AVENUE was actively conducting auditions to locate a new vocalist. In May 2009, the group introduced Swedish born Arabella Vitanc as their new lead vocalist. Munich based label Yesterrock Records reissued both ALYSON AVENUE albums 'Presence Of Mind' and 'Omega II' in June 2009. The latter included re-recorded tracks and previously unreleased demos.
