Biography
Renowned Hedemora Death Metal act that have increasingly bolstered their sound and imagery with Satanic lyrical references. CENTINEX opened their career in September 1990 issuing the debut demo cassette 'End Of Life', recorded at the famous Sunlight Studios, the following year. The band signed to Swedish label Underground for release of the album 'Subconscious Lobotomy', again recorded at Sunlight, which saw a limited release of 1000 copies. The CENTINEX line-up at this juncture comprised twin vocalists Erik and Mattias Lamppu, guitarist Andreas Evaldsson, bass player Martin Schulman and drummer Joakim Gustafsson.
A further three track demo session, entitled 'Under The Blackened Sky, followed. Gigging took CENTINEX throughout Sweden, Finland and Poland during 1993. CENTINEX's next cassette release 'Transcend The Dark Chaos', released on the band's own novelly titled Evil Shit Productions in 1994, was repressed by Sphinx Records. The second CENTINEX full-length album 'Malleus Malefaction' was recorded for the Wild Rags label and produced by Peter Tägtgren of HYPOCRISY.
1996 saw the release of a shared 7" single in collusion with INVERTED and a fresh band roster retaining Lamppu, Schulman and Evaldsson but with new faces in UNCURBED guitarist Kenneth Wiklund and drummer Kalimaa. The band also featured on a split EP with Sweden's VOICES OF DEATH and German act BAPHOMET.
The 'Reflections' CD was released in March 1997, later in the year being licensed to Slovakian Rock Extremum Records for a tape version. Early 1997 found CENTINEX on tour in Scandinavia as guests to CRADLE OF FILTH. However, a split in the ranks came the following year when both Lamppu and Evaldsson made their exit. The 'Reborn Through Flames' album was delivered during June of 1998, being made available on tape format through Polish Novum Vox Mortis Records. The Norwegian Oskorei Productions would issue the 'Shadowland' 7â€EP, a limited two track vinyl, the same year. Gigging took CENTINEX into Germany, Spain, Portugal and Holland.
The 'Bloodhunt' album, issued in June 1999 by Repulse, would also be delivered by Oskorei Productions in a limited edition 10" vinyl format restricted to just 300 copies. It was to be July 1999 before CENTINEX enrolled UNCANNY, MOONDARK, INTERMENT, PYOSISFIED and DELLAMORTE drummer Kennet Englund. For touring later in the year CENTINEX pulled in PEXILATED, SICKENSIDE, DELLAMORTE and CARNAL FORGE man Jonas Kjellgren on guitar and the PYOSISFIED, HATRED, SIDEBURNERS, ASOCIAL, FLESHREVELS, UNCURBED, INTERMENT, FULMINATION, FROSTHEIM and DELLAMORTE credited vocalist Johan Jansson. CENTINEX undertook two European tours during the year with shows across Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The same year had CENTINEX contributing their version of 'Ripping Corpse' to a Full Moon Productions KREATOR tribute album. Both the 'Subconscious Lobotomy' and 'Malleus Maleficarum' albums were re-mixed and edited for a re-release but legal problems forced Repulse to cancel the schedule.
2000 witnessed yet more ructions when Kjellgren and Englund decamped. Replacements were AZURE vocalist Robban Kanto and drummer Johan. The 'Apocalyptic Armageddon' 7" EP saw release in February through the German Deadly Art concern. In September of 2000 Repulse issued the 'Hellbrigade' album with the Japanese Soundholic label following suit in December. The following year it would be picked up by World War III Records in America, Picoroco Records in South America and Irond Records in Russia. Nocturnal Music would also weigh in with a limited edition vinyl version. The band appeared at several Swedish summer-festivals and journeyed across Scandinavia and Europe once more performing in Finland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, France, Switzerland, Spain, Austria and the Czech Republic.
In April of 2001 Centinex signed a new worldwide deal with the English Candlelight label, cutting the first album for their new partners, entitled 'Diabolical Desolation', at Black Lounge studios during July and August. CENTINEX would also share vinyl with the infamous American act NUNSLAUGHTER with their take on SODOM's 'Enchanted Land' for the 'Hail Germania' EP on the Belgian Painkiller label.
In October 2001 guitarist Kenneth Wiklund would break ranks and Johan Ahlberg of SUBDIVE would subsequently secure the position. With this revised line-up CENTINEX would put in their inaugural gig on American soil followed up be festivals across Sweden and Germany.
'Diabolical Desolation' was released in Europe on March 11th 2002, the release date for North America being April 30th. A subsequent limited edition vinyl version would be issued through Finland's Northern Sound Records. Restricted to 1000 copies this variant came in a gatefold sleeve clad in all new layout and artwork. European dates slated for November saw the band making up a bill including headliners DEICIDE alongside MYSTIC CIRCLE. For these shows the band roped in CARNAL FORGE skinsman Stefan Westerberg as regular drummer Kennet Englund was unable to commit.
The British Candlelight label announced it was to re-release the CENTINEX back catalogue for 2003 adding a significant number of bonus tracks to each release. A new album, 'Decadence - Prophecies Of Cosmic Chaos', including an instrumental track 'A Dynasty Of Obediance' composed by ARCANA's Peter Pettersson, was projected for 2003 release but then pushed back into 2004. The group severed ties with drummer Kennet Englund in August, inducting Ronnie Bergerståhl of JULIE LAUGHS NO MORE, AMARAN and MYNJUN repute in October. CENTINEX toured Finland in April of 2004 allied with DEATH DU JOUR and Swedish act REPUGNANT.
Swedmetal Records issued a limited edition 'Live Devastation' 7" single in September, this comprising 'Towards Devastation', recorded live in Borlänge, Sweden and 'Bloodhunt', recorded live in Lappeenranta, Finland. In November Centinex signed a new album deal with Cold Records, a subsidiary of Metal Blade, for the 'World Declension' opus. Ronnie BergerstÃ¥hl joined WORLD BELOW in December. In addition, A WORLD BELOW / CENTINEX split 7" EP, entitled 'Doomed Death Blow', would be released by UK imprint Conquer Records, limited to 500 copies. Promoting 'World Declension', released in North America through Candlelight Records, CENTINEX announced European touring in union with IMPIETY for October 2005. However, these gigs would be cancelled.
In March 2006 the band issued a press release closing their career, stating ""We hereby announce that after 16 years in the business the Swedish Death Metal act CENTINEX call it quits." A farewell live performance was scheduled for May 13th in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Beforehand, Martin Schulman, Johan Jansson and Ronnie Bergerståhl announced the formation of a new combo dubbed DEMONICAL. Johan Jansson joined REGURGITATE in September.
